I understand that you are rather unhappy with the post being deleted, but as it has been aired before, what's the problem? And is a sierra old skool is hardly in the same league!

Take a break, Doc, then come back, because if you leave then your life will be missing something, and these forums most certainly will.

this can only be decided when both parties are able to give their sides of the story and OSF is not a mediator which I am sure you will understand

Rubbish. If there are dodgy people out there then I would like to know too, whether they have the chance to defend themselves or not.

Whether that person is actually 'dodgy' or not isnt the point, the fact that a member was unhappy with the service and wants to warn others MUST be allowed and encouraged.

maybe we should keep a blacklist room until the company hears about it and wishes to respond. If they cant be arsed to respond sent them a letter asking them to. and if they dont... then they dont care all that much and are probably guilty

im assuming this was the case where they held his cars as ransom until he paid for the dodgy work, most companies would offer to re-do the work until satisfactory, not act in this manner.

i think that deserves to be reported

As I said previously, this has been highlighted and dealt with on a previous occasion. If Steve (Doc) is unhappy that there is written information about him in an advert in a magazine then he should consider taking libel action against him.

And as for "whether that person is actually 'dodgy' or not isnt the point" is exactly the point. Would you like to be accused of something on a public forum and not give your own point of view?

The decision has been made and some will accept it and others won't.

If Doc is unhappy then he should go down the Court route. If I felt that a company had acted unfairly I would take them to court

Jo is right.

With all due respect to Doc, his grievances have been aired before on this forum and on others.

If people want to know who are good suppliers to the OSF world all you have to do is ask on the board.

If you want to know the ins and outs of Docs disagreement either PM him or use the search button.

I and a lot of others will be sad to see Doc go, but thats his decision.

i think doc has every right to complain, and yeah he should have used the last post but so what. if he has something that he wants to rant about then he should be able to...

please remember this is a public forum so anybody can come on here an reply for themselves.its not picking on companies is it..?

the company should feel that they need to make it up to the consumer,

give them a email with the link an that should be all.

thanks, delete my rant too if u like (as the other party can not reply)

but i feel better knowing if a company is doing the dirty..

I think the main problem here is that Doc came on here and started with a good old rant which also went over the problems and arguments that he had previously. Now correct me if i'm wrong, but I don't think Retrosport has been on here slagging Doc off since the last dispute. It was all aired back then, and has been 'put to bed' (for want of a better phrase).

I understand how Doc must be feeling and I do sympathise... no one wants to be done up like a kipper and then have their motor held for ransom. This sort of debate/argument/disagreement should be in the court room and not here.

O.k. yes you as members have a right to know who the dodgy traders are, and as Jon said, just use the search box or ask on here. Old Skool Ford also have a list of recommended companies i.e. insurance, parts, fabrications and engine builders. This info has been put up and the companies have been recommended by OSF members for OSF members. This is here for you to view and make your own choices. Within these lists, there is no mention of Retrosport... what does that tell you?

If Doc had been a bit less angry with his choice of words etc. the post may probably have been left. That way if anyone wanted to know the full in's and out's, they could have PM'd Doc himself, and i'm sure he would have told them.

Finally last but not least, I feel I should point out that Retrosport has nothing whatsoever to do with the company Retro-Motorsport. Retro-Motorsport is a highly respected company who is also a member of OSF

Doc

I'm sorry you feel the need to go mate and I hope once you've calmed down you'll reconsider. We all felt your pain at what you went through with the restoration of your lovely mk2 and we were all overjoyed when it all came good in the end.

Unfortunately however, since the original thread certain legal facts have been brought to the attention of the OSF Admin / Mod team. Much as we regret it (as we'd all benefit from being able to hear details of poor service dished out by companies) it seems that unless the statements made have been previously proven to be fact in a court of law or admitted by the person/company they are aimed against, then they could be considered libellous by the person/company they are aimed at.

As we have the power to edit/remove threads, there is a possibility (however remote) that the site could be held financially liable for the contents of its pages (much like a newspaper can be sued for printing libellous statements). Whilst we have little doubt that what you say is true, it is regrettable that we cannot take the risk of the recipient of your comments deciding it isn't true and taking legal action against the site.

Now I know you're a good guy and we had a few beers and a laugh last year at CF so I'm sure you'll agree that venting your anger about the poor service you've received is less important than some angry businessman deciding he's been slandered and sueing the sites founder for damages. Even if the case didn't succeed the site probably wouldn't survive it and think of the hassle it would cause for certain people on here. Much as I hate to see people being dished out shoddy service, I don't see what can be done without exposing the site to the risk of legal action. Think about it mate, the risk to certain peoples financial well being would be enormous if somebody decided to sue the site and I'm sure you wouldn't want that.

So to all others I say, please thinking carefully about all the possible consequences of any statements you make on here. We know they are well intentioned and are meant to warn others of the service you have received. Unfortunately there are two sides to every story and a court of law may not agree with you no matter how convinced you are of the fact that you're in the right.

And please remember that we the Admin have been given the sometimes very difficult task of moderating the site. It may well be a public forum but we must ensure that potentially libellous remarks are not made because we will be held responsible - our names are on the paperwork and it ultimately comes back to us personally .... I don't doubt that your comments are meant to be well meaning but it is not you personally at the end of the day who will be held responsible is it Shaun.

FFS Talk about stamp your feet .

The post was NOT deleted, but moved to a 'private' area so that the staff of OSF could discuss its relative merits.

A lot of the time posts are reinstated after their content has been discussed.
