Admin Mk2Jo Posted March 27, 2008 Admin Report Posted March 27, 2008 Right then children Need to invest in a boring family diesel estate ..... the ones currently being considered are: Ford Mondeo or Peugeot 407 Anyone here have any dealings on these two and any advice on particular engines? Or any other options makes/models? Thanks
RFChris Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 The Unity Media pool car is a Mondingo Diesel. 6 years old and 160k in and she's still going. Chris
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 TBH Peugeot are having problems... I wouldn't recommend a newish one. Although the 406's are a good car. Mondeo Tractor you can't go wrong with... definately the one I would go for. Having said that, I have the NSTT, which is a W reg Escort Estate Turbo Tractor... 130.000 miles, drives faultlessly, 46 - 50mpg depending on how it's driven. I went to Bury (t'other side of Manchester) on Friday & I rarely stayed lower than 80mph... still averaged 44mpg
MightySprocket Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 had a Mondane estate TDci, fook me it was quick, used to eat tyres though, ace workhorse and biggest in class
Admin Mk2Jo Posted March 27, 2008 Author Admin Report Posted March 27, 2008 Thanks guys .... Jimbob, I think an Escort is too small really - needs to be Mondeo equiv size
V8ian Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 Ive got a BMW 530D Tourer SE, [E39] Diesel Sofa, Leather and Electric everything, and 45mpg+ on a run, bit less at 120+ cross country sorties tho. so Im told
Smudger105e Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 How about a Rover 75 Jo? I have a 600 with 260,000 miles on the clock, bit of a 'bus but it is reliable, and they seem to be liked by those that have them...

GT_Jim Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 i test drove a 2.0 16valve mondeo estate and it got a bit of a wobble on at speed not the wheels it was the body but im not sure if it was just the one i tried out though what about a beemer as its rwd?
4parajon Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 I had a 407 SW and it was a cracking car, rapid as well. The only niggle I had was that it was considerably smaller than the other leading estates and the actual tailgate is a bit of an odd size and shape so it makes it really awkward carrying anything large. Best thing about it was that it came with all the bells and whstles on it. I only had it for 12 months, but I did just over 30,000 miles in it and it never missed a beat.
Admin Vista Posted March 27, 2008 Admin Report Posted March 27, 2008 I've recently sold a 406 110Hdi and to be honest aside from being a little dull, I struggled to fault it. Reliable, economical, spacious, comfortable, and much better equipped than everything else in its class but for less money. Mine was a saloon but I'm told the estate is a superb load lugger. My father has a Citroen C5, the estate is massive and it's also very well equipped not sure I could get on with the styling though. I'm now considering a Rover 75 CDTi (or MG equivalent) the estate version of them is also a great load lugger. I also like the Mondeo and it's up for consideration against the Rover 75, sadly you don't get as much for the same money.
bigglesmk2 Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 Mondeo estate deffo Just sold mine on ebay tonite: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=010 Had no use for it any more ,but its been a reliable cheap daily smoke for a good few years.Top Gear really rate the new ones too
Mick The Cabbie Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 Skoda Octavia Vrs diesel 170BHP estate What he said! I run a 52plate Mondello TDCi as a cab. Bought from the block two years ago with 65k and done another 80k in her. Never misses a beat. Handles well, goes well. I would deffo recommend+ it's a Ford
X FLOW EDDY Posted March 27, 2008 Report Posted March 27, 2008 I drove a tdci mondeo estate the outher day and fook me it was quick . Would recamond the ford !!!
