johnny_h Posted November 14, 2006 Report Posted November 14, 2006 is broken! It's a renault clio 1.4rt. I bought it for xmas last year and the cam belt has snapped. I've been told that once the cambelt goes the engine is as good as fooked. Does anyone know if this is true?
Twinkle Posted November 14, 2006 Report Posted November 14, 2006 have a word with bash mk1 m8 he reconditions modern stuff and is only on thanet
RFChris Posted November 14, 2006 Report Posted November 14, 2006 Just asked a mate. While fixable its more than likley not worth it due to the value of the vehicle. Chris
RFChris Posted November 14, 2006 Report Posted November 14, 2006 You never know though mate, it might not be as bad as you think.....although, its frech, so by nature when put under pressure it will weaken and admit defeat. Then run away. Speak to Bash though, he's your best bet.
RChambers Posted November 14, 2006 Report Posted November 14, 2006 Surely its only going to be a couple of bent valves? 2nd hand head, head bolts and gaskets surely won't write the car off unless its only worth a couple hundred??
Admin Vista Posted November 14, 2006 Admin Report Posted November 14, 2006 Some engines bend valves some don't, I can't comment on the Clio engine, ring Renault they'll know. Worst case scenario? Head off, bent valves knackered pistons, possible valve seat damage Best case? New cam belt only All depends on the engine
sambo Posted November 14, 2006 Report Posted November 14, 2006 A Renault clio RT!!! I got one of those!!!!!

bomber1 Posted November 14, 2006 Report Posted November 14, 2006 Just asked a mate. While fixable its more than likley not worth it due to the value of the vehicle. Chris lets face it its a french car driving the wrong set of wheels and to modern just give it a dam good kicking set light to it & send it back to france with a big catapult pmsl just writing this
bomber1 Posted November 14, 2006 Report Posted November 14, 2006 burns you go to the top of the class
johnny_h Posted November 14, 2006 Author Report Posted November 14, 2006 I'd LOVE to get her a mk1 fezza! And I do think I will burn the french peice of shite!
bashmk1 Posted November 14, 2006 Report Posted November 14, 2006 if its the 8valve energie engine then.... it WILL have bent valves! there wont be any other damage, in my few years ive never seen any other damage other than bent valves(other than a couple of seats nicked where theyve been guning it)ive never seen pistons damaged enough not to use them again. whip the head off(im sure you'll be able to do that)and get the bent valves sorted, i can help out if need be, new headgasket and your away. you can re use the bolts.

105Nick Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 That happened to me last year in my mums corsa... week 1 fan belt snapped trailered back on the back of an AA van... week 2 cam chain snapped, left it well alone and the dumb ass AA man says try it, just to make sure. "errm no seriously" but he got in in turned the key and it all went clattering, so I had to fork out 600 quid for new valves, springs and a complete top end rebuild. I dont trust the AA anymore, plus paying membership and get a letter through the post saying youre entitled to three breakdowns per anum. WTF? How are you supposed to choose when to breakdown? Especially when my dynamo was fookin about.

bashmk1 Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 105nick, you cant believe some of the diagnoses we have from the AA, it really makes me wonder if they know an internal combustion sometimes. we had a landrover in one day(surprise surprise), what happened??? loss of power and lots of white smoke. diagnosis....cambelt snapped. genius i tell yer!

Morley Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 Might just have a Renault 1.4 cylinder head kicking about... It tipped a liner (bag of swank french sheite) and went in the bin, but the head was good! I'll have a little look in that shed of wonders that seems to keep Johnnys cars on the road

That shed of yours is magical I tell thee! I really don't know if there is major damage yet tho. The G/F said she heard a pop and the car just rolled to a stop. To be honest it's not an OSF so I don't want to spend time on it! ARGHH! Anyone wanna swap it for a mk1 fiesta?
bashmk1 Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 it really isnt that bad johnny, it'll have a few bent valves and thats it. some valves cambelt headgasket and your away.
