my fooking steering wheel snapped off in my hands in the middle of a roundabout !!!!!! luckily i slammed my brakes on and no harm done , dident get home till 4am thanks R.A.C phoned them at 12:15 am the weld broke on the quick release boss which was my fault

I have the same thing on my car, and always wondered what it would be like if the steering wheel came off at speed

But my boss was welded on at the highest setting on the welder, so it shouldnt come off in a hurry

i must admit it was something out of a comedy sketch once i relised we wernt hurt and my car was in one piece try turning your car with the wheel in your hands not attached too the car its fun ,............ i just counted my blessings and imagined me going down the m way at pace

Similar thing happened to us last weekend, bloody steering wheel broke pulling out of a tight parking spot

 

£90 for a recovery truck and when we got it home some t*wat had bodge welded the steering coupling on

Everytime I take the Anglia out I am constantly worrying about my drop link on the steering box snapping as it is an early one. I really should pull my finger out and change it for a later one

If you think there aint a lot of load on a colum try turning the thing with no ST wheel on it

It's all about leveradge think how far the rim of the wheel is from the center it's quite a lot usually as long as a ratchet and you know how easy they make it to undo a nut, there's lots of load on a cloum

Its also about gearing.

On the input side of the rack there is signifacantly less (1/3.4 for standard I think) load than after. I didn't suggest you could steer a car with no steering wheel, just there is not much load on it. Certainly not enough to be breaking welds
