Nettles Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 The UK’s largest barn find is up for auction in Eriswell Suffolk. The catalogue was available for viewing yesterday and today and the auction is being held tomorrow. Had a day off work yesterday and went along with Jerry and Kate (Mr & Mrs Lady Wit) to have a look and see what was on offer. Unfortunately most of what is on offer is in my opinion beyond repair unless you’re a complete looney with to much money and time. Apparently the fella who owned the land wanted to build a banger racing circuit and collected the classics for years but then died before he had a chance to use them. There are over 100 classic cars of all sorts of makes and models but as I said before I think this auction has come to late for most of them and they’re destine for the scrapper. I know that some of the ones in the photos I took don’t look to bad but I spent close to two hours walking round them and there wasn’t much to choose from on the Ford front. The only ones that I thought were maybe worth a go were a Yellow MK2 Cortina 1600e, a White MK2 Cortina estate and a White MK2 Escort. There was also a barn full of spares but again not much for Fords. It’s a real shame that these cars weren’t found earlier, probably could have saved more if they had been discovered a few years sooner. The Auction address can be found at www.eriswellhallbarns.co.uk
wild pete Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 always amazes me why people just leave them like that ,theres a farm about 3 miles from me like that there all in his yard and field , not many fords tho , what a waste
morcheen Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 a few years ago that lot might have been weighed in,at least now most can be saved or give up vital parts
louie bagel Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 it does make me sad to see so many cars ford or non-ford going to waste like that
Gonzo Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 A Pop van! I never knew they did them! Bet that's a bit rare... Always had a soft spot for a well-sorted Pop, and a van with some deep dish slot mags, only dropped at the front would look well 'ard!
Nettles Posted June 28, 2008 Author Report Posted June 28, 2008 A Pop van! I never knew they did them! Bet that's a bit rare... Always had a soft spot for a well-sorted Pop, and a van with some deep dish slot mags, only dropped at the front would look well 'ard! Yeah the 300e vans are very sort after! I had a good look over it and unfortunately it looked too far gone. The roof was well dented in and when I opened one of the rear doors, part of the floor and chassis came with it!
bortaf Posted June 29, 2008 Report Posted June 29, 2008 I opened a bonnet on a Mk1 corty and the inner wing came up with the hinge The 2 1600Es wernt too bad, well, savable anyway did you see the TR7 with the stag V8 or the stag with the errrrm stag V8
oldbus Posted June 29, 2008 Report Posted June 29, 2008 ..there are times when i wished i lived back in the UK. That MKII Estate doesn´t look too bad, shame about the rest though!

Cappernic Posted June 29, 2008 Report Posted June 29, 2008 That is such a shame... i love 105e's, & all of them are completely gone..
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted June 29, 2008 Report Posted June 29, 2008 Oooh there's an Anglia the same colour as mine There is a nice Avenger there which I would love to buy... I do love a nice Avenger
pelvins Posted June 29, 2008 Report Posted June 29, 2008 im sure my anglia was as bad as some of those some must be worth saving
Nettles Posted June 29, 2008 Author Report Posted June 29, 2008 I'm sure that most of the cars there will get brought but walking around looking at them on Friday has made me appreciate what I've already got. I'll never complain about the rust on my Anglia ever again!
surfingturnip Posted June 29, 2008 Report Posted June 29, 2008 I wanted that corty estate sooooooooooooo much but couldnt get down there on such short notice
bortaf Posted June 29, 2008 Report Posted June 29, 2008 wheres the barn? About 50 yards from where the cars where in the pics and about 100 yards from the auction house (they didn't have to look very far to "find" em )
