Hi all,

Does anyone know of any other MK2 Escorts that were made in South Africa that live here now. I cant seem to find any information on them on the internet. My new 1.3L is in Mimosa Yellow and is standard. Took it for a pre MOT yesterday at my local garage and they tell me all it needs is a brake line so could be on the road sooner than I thought!

Looks like a fairly standard mk2 to me fella. Any particular reason it travelled from Africa to Britain then???

No, cant find out anything about how it got to the UK or anything about South African Escorts.

There are a few bits that are odd, sport steel wheels, no strip down the sides, no heated rear window, speedo in K/Ms only, center consul and glove box, Mimosa Yellow

Sounds like you haven't got an english axle, some european built escorts had a kohln axle (often mistaken for an atlas) post up a good pic of the back of the diff and lets have a look.

Yep, ui think thats the German axle that begins with a K.

I'm not convinced. This one below is a Kohln axle and it doesn't look the same as that. It's possible that being a South African build it has something entirely different altogether

Can anyone provide a pic of an Atlas diff for comparison?

atlas rear cover is the same as a kohln but only slighlty different with the top and bottom bolt inline

Thanks Tim.

Ok so not a kohln, Atlas or English axle so probably a South African fitment. Other than I suspect it's quite strong given some of the terrain down there, I can't help much with that sorry.
