Shaun1706 Posted July 29, 2008 Report Posted July 29, 2008 Hi all, Does anyone know of any other MK2 Escorts that were made in South Africa that live here now. I cant seem to find any information on them on the internet. My new 1.3L is in Mimosa Yellow and is standard. Took it for a pre MOT yesterday at my local garage and they tell me all it needs is a brake line so could be on the road sooner than I thought! http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a249/ ... ort007.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a249/ ... ort001.jpg Cheers, Shaun
4parajon Posted July 29, 2008 Report Posted July 29, 2008 Looks like a fairly standard mk2 to me fella. Any particular reason it travelled from Africa to Britain then???

No, cant find out anything about how it got to the UK or anything about South African Escorts. There are a few bits that are odd, sport steel wheels, no strip down the sides, no heated rear window, speedo in K/Ms only, center consul and glove box, Mimosa Yellow

Shaun1706 Posted July 29, 2008 Author Report Posted July 29, 2008 Damn, I knew there was something else to ask, my rear diff is like a hex shape, didn't they used to be round? Its been years since I owned a MK2

Its been years since I owned a MK2 Sounds like you haven't got an english axle, some european built escorts had a kohln axle (often mistaken for an atlas) post up a good pic of the back of the diff and lets have a look.
Shaun1706 Posted July 29, 2008 Author Report Posted July 29, 2008 Right, first time I have used photobucket, fingers crossed; Oooops, try again soz
Shaun1706 Posted July 29, 2008 Author Report Posted July 29, 2008 OK then, anyone know what sort of diff this is ta
bmxdave Posted July 29, 2008 Report Posted July 29, 2008 Yep, ui think thats the German axle that begins with a K.
Admin Vista Posted July 29, 2008 Admin Report Posted July 29, 2008 Yep, ui think thats the German axle that begins with a K. I'm not convinced. This one below is a Kohln axle and it doesn't look the same as that. It's possible that being a South African build it has something entirely different altogether Can anyone provide a pic of an Atlas diff for comparison?
tim Posted July 29, 2008 Report Posted July 29, 2008 atlas rear cover is the same as a kohln but only slighlty different with the top and bottom bolt inline
Admin Vista Posted July 29, 2008 Admin Report Posted July 29, 2008 Thanks Tim. Ok so not a kohln, Atlas or English axle so probably a South African fitment. Other than I suspect it's quite strong given some of the terrain down there, I can't help much with that sorry.
Shaun1706 Posted July 29, 2008 Author Report Posted July 29, 2008 Thanks for having a go. Something different
john_3.0s Posted July 29, 2008 Report Posted July 29, 2008 seem to remember something years ago saying that the SA export cars used heavy duty shells (like RS cars). has it got double skinned strut tops etc?
