stevepeanut Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 I need to swap my axle on the capri. Is it do-able on the driveway with basic tools, axle stands and a jack?
5hane Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 we sprayed a car on a drive way with b&q's finest, anything is possible on a good driveway
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 I've taken the axle off my anglia with basic tools on the drive.. Ok, it was in my garage, but the door was open.
V8ian Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 no problem doing it on the drive, but dont support the car on the axle stands using them on the axle,--------------------dont larf, Ive seen it done, undo the U bolts and have the car come towards you, and the axle stays in the air.
evil knievel Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 i need to do this as well, where do you suggest supporting the car from?
Superblue76 Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 Support it at the end of the chassis rails near where the leaf spring is bolted on.
countrybumpkin Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 you should have no problems ding it on the drive, just think of your drive as a garage with no roof
Rick Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 no problem doing it on the drive, but dont support the car on the axle stands using them on the axle,--------------------dont larf, Ive seen it done, undo the U bolts and have the car come towards you, and the axle stays in the air. haha i did that was just undo-ing the last nut when it suddenly dawned on me but yeah its easy but put the axle stands under the last bit of the chasis just make sure you dont lean on the back end
Airbag Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 Me and my old man welded restored, sprayed and modded my capri on a driveway so yes you can
caprinerd Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 Me and my old man welded restored, sprayed and modded my capri on a driveway so yes you can same as m8 ive changed my axle 5 times in the last 3 years m8 all on my drive and on my own takes about 1 hour from start to finish
bigglesmk2 Posted August 19, 2008 Report Posted August 19, 2008 Would have a trolly jack handy to go under the diff housing and lower it to the floor once undone. An axel is alot heavier than it look's
