I'm a physics student but dosn't mean I know everything there is about cars! Maybe he was smart just not clued up on motors?

Is it dumb to not know what somthing does and ask, or to not know what somthing does and not ask?

Still I think everyone that owns a car should know a fair amount about how it works !

Please dont take this post serious I iz only messin :wink:

Agree with the first point, there are no stupid questions, only questions you'd be stupid not to ask.

Not sure I agree with the second, a car is a pretty complex machine and if you've no background in it and it's not part of you interest or hobby then I don't see that anyone should no much more than how to check the oil/water/tyre pressures, perhaps where to check fuses and how to fit their spare. Lets face it, with modern cars even those of us that do understand how they work are normally up shit creek when they expire at the side of the road.

I'll be the first to admit that I dont know a lot about cars - I just know how to drive them - I have started to learn and I have learnt a great deal whilst doing a full on resto - but there is still so much more to know

older cars are pretty straight forward but the electrics in the modern cars makes them much more difficult to fix/

to be fair though they all follow pretty much the same priciples just different approaches.

The trouble with me is I am an Engineer, the FIRST thing you are taught as an apprentice is, if in doubt ASK

Im an engineer aswell as being one of those boring geeky fookers who is completely anal about all the little details about an engine and i still ask questions. I know men who have been in the industry for 35 years who still ask questions. Even my tutors asked the students questions when i used to go to college. You should never be ashamed to ask a silly question. Yes, it might be silly, and maybe you should already know it, but its best to ask and find out then to fook up later or tell others the wrong thing.

I think everyone should have a basic knowledge of cars. Oils, water, changing wheels and bulbs and other such things. I also think people should have a very basic knowledge of the workings of a car. Some people are so oblivious to anything thats its just plain dangerous.

What happened to the days gone by of people doing everything on their cars? Is it because it used to be a mans job and man these days are far more effminate? I once spoke to an AA man who said the amount of times he gets called out for a puncture, and the driver hasnt even made the feintest attempt to change the wheel is ridiculous, and equally pathetic.
