Retro-gone. Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 so many out there but which one is for me i wonder, im thinking of a Kent fr31, purely so i can keep an evenly balanced tickover, ive read and heard that the fr32 gives a lumpy tickover, but theres no point in me fitting a fr31 if its not gonna be an improvement over the stock 2.0 cam, has anyone got one in thier 2.0 pinto? also is it right that i can use my original followers with the fr31? i dont want to have to buy a full cam kit at 250+ pounds , nor do i want to buy a vernier.. decisions decisions...
BIG G Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 I have a cam you can buy 30 quid + postage
Copey Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 i have a piper bp285 in mine, runs really well got a mate Squadge, the tall lad in the l'pool shirt who helped move the "road closed" barrier at blackpool, he has an fr30 cam in his and it King shifts!! has mine upto 80 and mine is by no means slow!
vibrating_Cake Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 i have a standard one hehehehehe wasnt impressed with the fr32 at all, just added a powerband really. the std one was powerish powerish powerish thru the rev range the fr32 was not much not much powerish power power kinda wanted to go back to the standard cam after the fr32, so if anything i'd go for the fr31
Admin Vista Posted September 18, 2008 Admin Report Posted September 18, 2008 What ever cam you choose Tony DONT use your original followers. They have bedded in with your original cam and will lunch any new / used cam you fit them on. If you get a used cam and can get the followers that were used with it then all well and good (providing you match the follower to the right lobe) but otherwise get a new set of followers and preferably a new spray bar too.

Supercharged Nat Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 agreed with the new followers! its worth spending on otherwise it will waste your dosh. fr31 will be a good choice. an inbetween the two if you like. check burtons though. their cams tend to be a bit cheaper than kent, and have a similar profile/ charactoristics to kents.
Retro-gone. Posted September 18, 2008 Author Report Posted September 18, 2008 great advice thanks chaps, il ponder a while
SmokeEm Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 It's a little pointless changing the cam if you're not buying a vernier Tony mate. You really need one to get the best results. As you know, we are currently running an FR32 and I agree that it's a little 'Power bandy' so to speak. An Fr30 is probably more suited to you with a High Torque profile and range of 1000-6000 rpm http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_in ... ts_id=8113 ps - Engine looks bloody nice mate
bortaf Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 Got an FR30 in me EFI pinto Lurvly cam makes driving so easy, it's like me V6 cortina but it don't run out of steam over 5000rpm
TwoLitrePinto Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 had an old kent fr1 in my 2.1 pinto, lumpy tickover, but i liked it, sounds mean had a fair amount of low down grunt then you put your foot down, pulled well at any revs but mainly started tearing between about 4000-7000rpm was still pulling like a train at 7000 but i didnt want it to go bang!
