Posse Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 its all about the rear axle, a fixed rear axle is old skool, an IRS isnt! (IRS=indepent rear suspension) also the heaters are better in newer ford so i dont class um as old skool!
Fiesta Steve Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 its all about the rear axle, a fixed rear axle is old skool, an IRS isnt! MK1 Fiesta has a beam axle !! Um, as for the whole cossie thing, I don't think 'oldskool' is detemined by age, thats why a late Capri is oldskool and a Cossie isn't. Several people have put up posts about the Mk1 Fez being oldskool or not, I think a few people regard it as not being oldskool because its fwd. But like it or not only 3 years separate the Mk1 Escort and the Mk1 Fiesta and many Fiesta's and older that a lot of Mk2 Escort that we all love. BUT they gain oldskool status by being built with the right parts, giving a proper oldskool look.
Chelle Posted February 28, 2006 Author Report Posted February 28, 2006 Thank you to everyone who posted there opinions... for those of you who wondered, i wasn't having a go at the site i just wanted to know what everyone thought. I thought it would make for a good debate. But on the other hand i've been told " what do you expect asking about cossies". I personally don't see why i shouldn't ask about cossies when people ask about people carriers and the like! Thanks to Colin, Darren and Steve for explaining it in Laymans terms for me
Fiesta Steve Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 I don't mind a Cossie, there just not oldskool. Anyway we all love a mass debate
Chelle Posted February 28, 2006 Author Report Posted February 28, 2006 I was waiting for some one to say that
Guest TheXEgrowler Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 COSSIE R OLD S**T, NOT OLD SKOOL, AND YFKT......
ay_jay Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 Future classic I think. I loved my old 3 Door
johnboy Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 Chelle, I think I know where you are coming from. The 3door cosworth is with out a doubt a classic and does have a kind of "retro cool" about it when compared to imprezas and evos etc. Also the XR4 ,Mk3 XR3, Rs1600 and S1 Turbo are all very retro compared to more modern motors. I love them all. BUT I dont think you can class them as Old Skool Ford! I not sure why but they just are not!
mk3cokebottle Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 i think personally that the cossie xr3i rs turbo gte astra and other newer cars will be known as old when our kids are buying there first classic, if you think hard in maybe 15 yrs time that catagory of car would have made a name for its self as our cars did when they were off the production lines , you never know my sons first classic could be a bloody ford focus, its feasable to have a good rant evrey so often and then kiss and make up it clears the air and evreyone is happy when its finished , so i geuss that the fecking cossie is just not a osf yet thank god laters
mex-16v Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 cossy,rs1600i,rst xr's all belong in a different group to old skool fords, when ford changed there build policy that when the true old skool ford stop being produced. you say that cossy,rs1600i,rst xr's will become old skool as they age but mk1/2 escorts etc will get even older, i think this site is great and the fact that you only have old skool fords on here is better, there are so many other sites like Alcoholics Anonymous that are overtaken with cossy,rs1600i,rst xr's etc nice to be able to chat just old skool
over_head_cam Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 I'm biased cos I do love a 500. But classic? yes Oldskool? absofookinlutely not. Nothing has the clean simple classic look of a pre-80's ford. I don't think it's just about age, there's other things to consider too. Take a look at an old ford. Find a bit you like - An Anglia bonnet, a Mex arch, or even a bit of trim on the pillar of a 1600e. Look at it and imagine.... a person, with a pencil and paper took an idea form their mind and drew that part out by hand and a model maker sculpted it from whatever medium was required. Look at that part and all the other parts that make up the OSF and consider if a modern car can be in the same league..... Apart from a precious few, I think not.

AND YOU LOT LOVE THOSE OLD FORDS FOR ALL OF THAT TOO........
johnboy Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 You know mate, I think you've hit the nail on the head, metal bumpers, 13"wheels and leaf springs. Makes up for a good combination of simplicity, adaptability and fun!

kevmk2 Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 I class 3 door Cossies as Retro, not old skool. And saph's well they are a cab car
RETRO_AL Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 Sorry but even tho i think they can be nice, especially the RS500, I just cant see them in the same category as a MK1 Escort or Anglia. Modern Classic perhaps, Old Skool no! that said it for me
over_head_cam Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 I put all that thought into a post, and not one reply. BWAH!
