Rick Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 still try knock him down though mate offer him 400 and go from there
72mk1escort Posted October 2, 2008 Author Report Posted October 2, 2008 I might well do but i spoke to him last nite and said is there anything youve missed off of the spec he had given me and he said oh ive got a vernier timing pulley and chain etc he said you can have that in with the price to. Also he said the 40's or dellortos and they have KnN filter on them aswell How much would you say the carbs are worth on their own and does the fact that their dellortos put their price down ??
J Elvy Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 naismiths are a good company! we use them when we get machining done and so does ashton mobile. The engine will be as reliable as if any other reputable company were to have built it!! and 500 is cheap and i wish id had this offer when me and my dad built the 1660 for my 4 door mk2!! we used naismith to do the lightening and balancing, boring and decking! so there you go, if youve got £500 then spend spend spend now!! lol
72mk1escort Posted October 2, 2008 Author Report Posted October 2, 2008 Thanks mate thats very useful to know And yes if its what he says it is im gonna get it
72mk1escort Posted October 3, 2008 Author Report Posted October 3, 2008 I might well do but i spoke to him last nite and said is there anything youve missed off of the spec he had given me and he said oh ive got a vernier timing pulley and chain etc he said you can have that in with the price to. Also he said the 40's or dellortos and they have KnN filter on them aswell How much would you say the carbs are worth on their own and does the fact that their dellortos put their price down ?? BUMP! Anyone know a price for the carbs and filters on their own?
72mk1escort Posted October 3, 2008 Author Report Posted October 3, 2008 The carbs and filters i might do that you know. I will get the whole lot and probably be selling the carbs First question is what sort of fuel economy would i get with the dellorto 40's on it once its all been set up properly (Driven carefully ov-course)?
4 door escort Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 i'd be up for that aswell if you're not going for it, croydon is down the road from me
72mk1escort Posted October 3, 2008 Author Report Posted October 3, 2008 Im deffinitly buying this guys so hands off But the carbs may be up for sale after i have brought the whole lot
Toby Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Depends on the set up, the driver, compression ratio, etc, but somewhere between 10 and 30 mpg I would imagine.
Doc Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 sounds like bullshit to me mate best you give me his number so i can suss him out for you LOL
72mk1escort Posted October 4, 2008 Author Report Posted October 4, 2008 Right went to look at the engine today the only thing that worries me is that it is meant to have been rebuilt but surely if it had been rebuilt by a proper company (Naismiths in Croydon) then surely they would have painted the engine Also he has not got any receipts for the work because he said he paid cash to avoid VAT. I am a bit unsure so could someone let me know if it should be freshly painted if its meant to have been rebuilt.
davreeve Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 Unless you,ve heard it running or it has a warranty any second hand engine should be bought with a veiw to stripping it down.
72mk1escort Posted October 4, 2008 Author Report Posted October 4, 2008 Im not really sure the rocker cover one looks a bit oily but i guess thats normal also the engine has not been used for 6 months it had them bolts to hold the core plugs in so i guess it has been worked on and it is a high HP crossflow to have them. I said to him did they fit a new head gasket when they rebuilt it? He said i should hope so
Rick Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 did it have electric or mechanical fuel pump and fan? as i doubt a high power one would go the mechanical route/ you should have got pics dude
72mk1escort Posted October 4, 2008 Author Report Posted October 4, 2008 The fuel pump bit had a blanking plate over it and it did not have a normal fan he said he ran an electric fan
72mk1escort Posted October 5, 2008 Author Report Posted October 5, 2008 going to be picking it up one day next week another bonus is it has a burton rocker cover and another holbay lotus one which he's throwing in as well which im pretty sure is quite rare.
aaron735 Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 sounds about right, so thats an extra 10hp realy does getiing rid of the lame fane and fitting an electric is good for an extra 10 bhp
Rick Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 here you go mate similar engine for westfield WITHOUT the carbs http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=013
