GT_lenny Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Just been cleaning up(again) some rusty bits round the wheel tub on the cortina with the wire wheel on the grinder, It grabbed and jumped back at me just skimmed my neck and then got snarled up in my tee shirt ripping it off me I was proper shaking after, and had to have a sit down with a smoke and a cuppa, I got off lightly but it was the thought of how much worse it could of been that scared me,you can just make out the little scratches thru my stubble,
FredTransit Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 OO lucky escape! You can't even wear any protective gear for that!
pauln Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Close one, glad it's not too bad. I have a visor with a flap of nomex that covers my face and neck as i'm afraid of those wire wheels.
countrybumpkin Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 lucky escape chap, i have a 4 inch scar on my leg from where a 9 inch grinder blade exploded and stuck in me
2.8i Cossie Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 times like that you realise how lucky you can be at times!
GT_lenny Posted October 11, 2008 Author Report Posted October 11, 2008 I don't want to sound like someones nagging mother, but I have been using grinders for years for all manner of tasks and I became complacent, I hope you'll all think of this thread next time you pick a grinder up,and remember you might not be so lucky
X-pack-Glyn Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Maybe the grinder thought you needed a shave?
Trevmk3 Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 that aint good mate think Glyn is right though
Mr Sam Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 bugger very very lucky boy had mine smash into the top of my hand last year exploding on impact and fracturing something in my hand, can never be to carefull
over_head_cam Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 Lucky escape m8. Remember boys and girls: saftey first
Burns Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 grinders are dangerous things i've still got a bruise on the side of my head from mine. sitting in the rear wheel well and grinding away the lip over the arch, the thing jumped out of my hands and smacked me in the side of the head, if it had hit me grinder end first it would have been a lot worse i was wearing gloves, overalls, goggles and a breathing mask, the only thing i wasn't wearing was a helmet glad you're alright bud
kevmk2 Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 Not good! My mate Icky had a wire brush on the end of an industrial drill trying to get down the sides of the chassis rails on a mk2 escort, it dug in and nearly took his left eye out, it fractured his cheek bone though That happened at 1pm and he went to hospital at 10.30pm, the doctor asked why didnt he go earlier, he said he had to get the car done
MK2Ed Posted October 13, 2008 Report Posted October 13, 2008 Lucky escape m8. Remember boys and girls: saftey first Indeed....! A mate of mine lost his left thumb to a grinder - thumbs not a digit to lose, makes the rest of the hand virtually worthless...
