DanV Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 The company I work for are very close to manufacturing Limited Slip Diffs. They are plate type and plans so far are for Sierra 7", English and Atlas. Other diffs may be produced dependant on the sucess of these models. Im doing some market research off my own back and would greatly appreciate your opinions. Please answer the poll with what single thing matters to you most. Please select a maximum of three answers and put them in a comment in preference order 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and id also really appreciate if you could also mention in your comment which application your diff will be used for i.e Rally, Fast Road, Drifting, Sprint, etc. All LSDs will be clutch plate type which can be shimmed to adjust preload and will also have a choice of ramp angle in the near future. Please do leave feedback, even if your not planning on buying a diff. Id just like to know who uses LSD's, what for and what matters to the customer most so that we can get a competitive component on the market. Thanks for your time ladies n gents Edit: I'll made it a sticky for a week, so Dan can get some good feedback. I think this would benefit the OSF community!
DAZZA Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 1st- Price (lets face it, thats why few of us have one) 2nd- Effectiveness 3rd -Longevity

Rick Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 longetivity? why dont they last long or somet?
MexDan Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 USE- Rally 1 effectiveness 2 longevity 3 maintenance Basically my input would be.. Dont make something that is sub standard in order to make it cheap for everyone. Although you will need to be no more expensive as other manufacturers, dont think that by undercutting them massively you will do yourself any favours. If its not strong/effective, no matter how cheap it is people whont buy it because of the bad reputation it will get!! Make sure it is strong enough to be used REGUARLY on stages/track/strip. Make sure it goes through heavy testing before marketing because once you have a bad rep it will be almost impossible to shake it off. Obviously the aim would be to make something that can out perform the leading manufacturers, but still be competitively priced.. good luck and I look forward to seeing what you come up with!!
wonderfulweasel Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 I'd agree with the comment above. Use: sprint and fast road 1. Price 2. effectiveness 3. longevity
DanV Posted October 15, 2008 Author Report Posted October 15, 2008 longetivity? why dont they last long or somet? There is more than one material / coating that can be used for the friction plates. They all have varying properties and some are more expensive than others. The purpose of this post is to find out exactly what YOU want from a product, not making a product and trying to persude you that our product is somethin you want and/or need. The LSD's have been going thro testing over the past few months by a few well known and reputable companies and so far i gather feedback has been very positive. Our firm has always been motorsport based and im trying to get them to see that there is a huge market for road car products too. We already make several parts for OSF's and over time with the help of this forum, id like to try and convince the bosses that there is a larger market for other parts, not just performance parts, but also parts that are obsolete or hard to find.

Wessie Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 everyone's mentioning price but i dont think the LSD's on the market at the moment are too expensive. if they were cheaper and they kept breaking then you lot would be the first to moan, pay good money, get a good product
MexDan Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 pay good money, get a good product Exactly my point mate... couldnt agree with you more
caprifan Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 Fast road use 1 Price 2 Effectiveness 3 Ease of Maintenance I disagree with the comment about the price at the moment, £450+ for a capri LSD axle is a lot of wedge for a lot of people, if your building a big money car then its not a worry, I want to replace the standard axle on my Capri as its been nicked in the past and can't afford to...

Dont forget to answer the poll and put down what application u'd be using ur LSD for. Quailty information and market knowledge helps create a product that suits ur requirements.
