well i still cant make up my feckin mind wether to stay oldskool or go newskool on the wheels, specially after todays meet where everyone was saying how well the chrome rostyles look, someone mentioned the rostyles would look even nicer if i ditched the 185 70's in favour of 185 60's..

then lower the car to suit..

i gotta agree on the 185/60s myself

could go 205/60/13

i cant see how bigger wheels will change a thing as its not the wheel diameter but the tyre wrapped around it that maters, standard capri size 185/70/13, brookie 195/55/15 but the same rolling radius so how does it changes the acceleration ?

195/55 r15's are expensive, get 195/50 r15's!!

the speedo is almost cock on on my capper to the satnav now, used to be a couple of mph all the time with the origional wheels 8)

oh and MODERN TYRES outclass old tyres by so much you wouldnt believe, especially in the wet (not that you drive your's in the wet..... doris :P)

but that still dont explain why fitting large wheel would throw out the bottom end pull when the tyres are still running the same rolling radius

fook me i like that

noo

i do to, but ur car is sooo right

its a set of wheels................ it takes 10 mins, a jack and a wheel brace to change back. I reccon it looks good, be something different and its not permanent

superestimos are nice  specially on mk3s.

also caprinerd: 13's and, say, 16's wouldn't have the same tyres would they? 13s will be smaller even with big tyres. :?

im not saying there the same tyres im saying the same rolling radius any body with half a brain cell knows you aint going to squeeze a tyre ment for a 13 inch rim on to a 15 inch rim whatim saying is if you put 16 inch rims onto a capri which had 13 inch rims then you compensate by fitting a lower profile tyre so the rolling radius stays the same so if the rolling radius stays the same how can you lose some of the acceleration of the capri, also by fitting the lower profile tyre your keeping the speedo with in the legal calibration

take a 13 in wheel and mark the tyre at the bottom then do one complete turn of the wheel so the mark ends up at the bottom again, then measure the distance it has taken. do the same with 1 16 inch and the distance will equal the same so there is o difference in the rolling radius, so how can it alter the acceleration of a car

thats the question i cant get an answer too

Your 100% right but i think with a big enough step such as 13" to 17" theres a limit to how low the profile can be and you have no choice but to have a larger rolling diameter. But the benefit is of course more relaxed cruising and power and gearing allowing, a higher top speed :)

13's to 15's or even 16's can be done but any bigger and i think youd have to change.

Its just a rumour that goes around mainly between uneducated youngsters who get a little information and suddenly think they know everything.

They way i look at it is that bigger wheels = more weight = slower anyway. And big wheels are inherintly weaker anyway.

the lowest profile ive seen was on an AMG merc when i worked for them in bedford and that was a 35 profile on splits but i can understand about the weight issue and can see how this would effect acceration but didnt even tink of the weight cheers for that

iirc they are 205/50r16?

you can get 205/40r16 continental sportcontact 2's

absoloutley mint tyres, and you're speedo wont be as much out.

i just never could be bothered changing them cause the grip on those tyres are immense!!!!!

:) ur speedo will be 5mph out all the way up the speedo range :) 25mph thru speed cameras dude ;)

I know you have made your mind up , but have a look at these they seem to be well liked by the comments :D

What are they called, I got one in the shed, did have four until some t**t stole 3 off a Capri I picked up

Cant see any manufacturers name or details on it and I wouldn't mind making a set back up.
