ray1609 Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 hello, im looking into buying a Capri, but.... i dont know wether to go for the 1.6 or the 2.0. what MPG will i get out of either (roughly) thanks for your help! Ray!
Trevmk3 Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 depends how heavy your foot is and what kind of driving/roads you will do the majority of driving on, also whether the egine is modified in any way
countrybumpkin Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 a 1600 will be cheaper insureance, but as for mpg it will really depend on how you drive it, in my 2lt escort if i drive a 65 on the motorway i can get 30+mpg but if i thrash it i get less than 20mpg
Retro-gone. Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 only the elite handsome are allowed capris, the rest have to settle for escorts
caprinerd Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 only the elite handsome are allowed capris, the rest have to settle for escorts
countrybumpkin Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 only the elite handsome are allowed capris, the rest have to settle for escorts oh i'd of said those who cant afford an escort settle for a capri
caprinerd Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 if you drive hard any car will drink the juice for insurance reasons 1.6 would be the one to go for but if its economy then get a 2.0 and fit a 1.6 and if you need a 1.6 there`s a guy on this forum thats about to take out a 1.6 to fit a 2.0 that might be willing to sell his for the right price lol just kidding tony lol
evil knievel Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 i would (and did) get a 1.6 for the insurance being cheaper. not sure on the MPG, depends how much you thrash it!!
sab6024 Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 I have a 1.6LS 4spd and it costs me £213 Fully Comp to insure with business insurance on it and on a motorway run I can get about 40mpg out of it and at work she averages about 27mpg
ray1609 Posted October 27, 2008 Author Report Posted October 27, 2008 well if i drive it just normally! not thrashing it
Chris! Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 my 1.6 averages 18mpg i do trash it alllllllllll the time though
Univex Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 I've never bothered to work out the mpg of my 1.6 capper. Whatever it is, it's money well spent
evil knievel Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 I've never bothered to work out the mpg of my 1.6 capper. Whatever it is, it's money well spent basically if your gonna cane it, your gonna be canin' it between petrol stations. if you drive normally, expect 30mpg - 40mpg. (from what i've read in this thread).
Conor Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 Common knowledge that the 2L returns more MPG than a 1.6, mainly due ot the fact you're not working it as hard during normal driving, but it's only by around 3MPG. Insurance wise there won't be much difference if any at all depending on your age.
Guest chriscapriman Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 accordin to the march 1985 ford cars brouchure i got with my capri, a 1.6 does 45.6mpg@56mph, 34.4@75 & 27.4 urban . 2.0 46.3@56, 35.8@75 & 23.7 urban which is about rite for mine even tho its tuned cant be arsed typin out the 2.8 ones but they are about 7 mpg thirstier
DarrenM Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 Go for a 2.0 with a 5 speed. The 1.6 is under powered and certainly no better on fuel.

TwoLitrePinto Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 my old 2.1 with 3.0 carb and fast road cam etc, used to average about 12mpg but i went through about 10 P/W tyres on the back in 2 months so that might be why sitting at 65mph on a motorway it would give me about 35mpg most. insurance was £700 a year on a 2.0 laser (no performance mods declared apart from the 4branch manifold as it was visible and im 21 with 3yrs no claims
jamie k Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 i drive a 3.1 v6 as fast as i can and get 4 gallons to the mile lol and break down all the time but its fun . if i were you i would go for the 2 litre as itll prob be easier to find maintanence parts for (oil filters etc) and would hold better money i would imagine . anyone agree
TwoLitrePinto Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 the 2.0 is definately a much more sort after engine, very torquey and easy to drive, if you do decide later in its life that you want more power, you have already got the engine for the job... i agree the 2.0 is the best option as if you want MPG, theyre not bad standard anyway
