Right, I've been working for a company for 5 months with a starting wage of £6ph which would be increased later. After a while I was told by one of the supervisors I would be getting a wage review at the end of August which would get me an increased wage of £6.75ph. The end of August came & I enquired about my wage review/payrise which the supervisor stated would be recommended to the production manager. After a while I hadn't heard anything so asked her if she knew when I would be getting my payrise, she responded with a short, sharp No! & walked off!

I left it a few more weeks & then asked her again, only for her to walk past me, turn around & hold her hand up to me in a "stop" motion while she continued walking! Agitated by this I went higher & asked one of the managers who told me he would rlook into it. 2 weeks ago I asked him again & he told me that he would recommend I get one.

On Thursday I was called into the office to be told I'm being made redundant & issued me with a weeks notice, the manager telling me that I could either work next week & get paid for it or spend the week looking for work & get paid for it.

On Friday I spoke to him again & asked him to confirm either work next week & get paid or not work & get paid & he told me that it wasn't what he'd meant & said he was sorry that was the way I'D interpretted it!

He's expecting me to work next week but said he wouldn't chase me up if I didn't turn up!

On one hand I could remain professional & work next week as I need the money, on the other hand I could spend the week more productively by looking for alternative employment (without being paid!) after the way I've been treated by them!

I don't know which route to take, work or not!?

what a bunch of Apple Pies

they obv knew it was going to happen but didnt have the decency to tell you so why should you work tell them to take their week and show it up their arse

after the way youve been treated i would go look for a new job asap

how ever much i'm drawn to the bananas option i'd have to say sod them and dont go in your getting paid ether way so best screw the abit

Nah, he told me on Thursday that I would be getting paid, when I asked him to verify that fact on Friday he told me he didn't say that or that's not what he meant it to be interpretted at so if I stayed away I wouldn't get paid

Mate my honest advice? I'd have started looking elsewhere the moment they fooked you around with your wages  That was bang out of order what they did to you.

So my advise....

Dont go in spend the next week looking for another job, where they dont treat you like a cold turd.

You owe them b@5t@*ds nothing, look at how they have treated you, and join a union as it can help even the threat of union involvement normaly is enough to get most employers moving, well ive found it does anyway.

I really sincerely hope you find something better oon mate i really do

I would check with CAB but i was told before if your being made redundant then you are allowed to take time off to go to legitimate interviews on full pay,

Big mistake people make is by thinking they are entitled to a PAY RISE, this isnt the cast unfortunately you are only entitled to a review which can be done on an individual level.

Mext obstacle you may come up against is getting your p45,

if you are monthly paid and are not due wages til end of NOV then you will have to wait til possibly DEC when they would pay your bonus and OT to issue a p45 and theres nothing you can do about it. So until they pay you all they owe you they can hold it back til then and even the tax office will tell you the same. So basic rate tax at new job til then. (P>S) dont sign a p46 as this will cause you even more grief later on

id agree with the joiming of a union but remember you have to be a payed member for minimum of 1 year before they normaly help you out even when i was between jobs i payed my union fee and when i started a new job i just kept on paying as normal and when i needed them they were there for me 100% and i got a good pay out settlement for the accident

in my union it is only 3 months but when there is a threat to anyone there is still the threat of the union officer to at least make them play fairley

to many companys are treating people withought respect i hope it all ends up ok for you depending on how long you have been there i would still go to the cab for advice

If you need the money then I'd swallow the bitter pill, do the work and take the money, make sure you ask for a reference as that can mean a lot to your next employer. If you jusy walk out you'llmiss a weeks money and not get your reference.

see i am for all three ............

stay > get the dollar and then get a new job

leave > cos of the way your being treated

or go fookin bananas >> go in there smash the manager and superviser around the head with whatever you can get hold of thats heavy then grab whatever you can that is worth a bob or two ......... then say thankyou and walk away calmly but violence dont get ya knowhere

if you have access to a computer and the internet at work then i would go in and get paid to look for another job whilst doing very little :lol:

 Personally I would go to work for the last week as it will look better for you when applying for other jobs, plus you've said you need the money, another weeks wages is better than no weeks wages

Good luck in the job hunt though Neil :thumbsup:

dunno where you live, but I'm doing loft insulation. Since the government announced this new scheme everyones getting work done on their houses. Our place will hire anyone who will stick at the job, and you need no qualifications. A car licience to drive upto 3.5 is sound to drive a luton van. I started with a couple of weeks training and then got my own van. its not nice crawling round dirty lofts but I made 25k a year the last few years and I get every night at home and every weekend off. Last few months all the local companies are desperate to hire staff cos not many people like working with fibreglass. If you dont mind hard manual work its a quick way into big money

ps tell em to get fooked and take the week off

dont know what you work as but look at it this way ,

if your getting paid off because of the credit crunch your boss may not want to get rid of you but has to simply because he has no work or money coming in. in which case take it on the chin go to work get paid and phone interviews etc on peace breaks etc .(the way you should)

however if you suspect they done it just because you asked for more money still go to work and cause signifcant damage lol (memba to put glue on the doris with the hands chair)

the place where i work had over 800 labourers 6 months ago now it only has 73 this is before you think about hgv/plant operaters or office staff , and belive me ive had to pay a few off and its defo the worst feeling in the world so dont hold it against your boss stay freindly and you could be asked back first time there recruting
