Scrap metal value

Took some metal down the yard today. Copper wire/pipe, rads, stainless etc..

Got £25 for the lot

 

Really shocked how much prices have fallen.

it's all linked to the down turn, people are broke so aren't buying anything ergo less demand for raw materials.

Yeh, thats what I was thinking. Was only 6 months ago we'd got £100 odd for that lot.

2 weeks ago scrap cars were at £15 a ton!!!!!!

 

gone up a few quid now again, but not a lot.

 

Been getting up to £200 a ton, goes to show what a bit of ecenomic un-rest can do. Will be paying for people to take away scrap cars again soon.

but platinum was (so proably still is) 27 grams per £1000 on average a catalist convrter has 3grams of platinum. 9 cat's and thats £1000.. well proably a bit less due to it not being pure.

 

anyhow. all the people at my work are gutted about it, they had saved over 30 alloy rads for scrapping.. but were going t wait till xmas to weigh it all in.. big mestake..

 

o well, they recon it will take another 5 years for scrap prices to go really high, but on the good side.. less classics will be weighed in

why do i know all that

 

as most will know and if you dont the reason scrap has hit an all time low is because of there being a pollution bracket put over the top of china and japan for the olympics , although the the olympics in the first place caused an all time hike in prices alot of it was also down to the amount of ammunition and tanks , landy's etc that the british and american army had to replace after the last few years of heavy fighting abroad.

 

after having a chat with the owner of a local scrap yard the scrap prices are due to rise again early next year around feb- march and you should expect to receive at least £75 per ton for dirty iron ie cars by the end of april early may

if you can get £1000 pound for every 27 grams i have about 40 cats which i have kept from weighing cos the price of cats have dropped by 50% here aswell we use to get about £50-£80 per cat but now only getting £20-£35 so if you get me a number i will happily give you a drink if i can get that price before xmas and make some money back i dont mind stripping the precios metals out beforehand either

I was getting £130 a tonne a few months ago, now its £25 a tonne, does not help my engine rebuild plans!

gutted wonder why i didnt get much for my box of metal this month

 

il save my copper and brass til i have skip full then weigh it in the next time it goes high

According to the scrap yard copper wire has the highest value at the moment..

£1200 per tonne. Thats alot of wire
