Another point worth considering is that it's against the law to make a vehicle appear newer than it actually is... i.e. putting an X (1982) registration on a 1960 car. (except imports)

Yep with a kit you start with a NEW chassis/shell not an already reg'd and ID'd shell, you cannot change regs from an already reg'd to car to another without a reg transfer and that requires both cars to be MOT'd and taxed

Do you mean your Anglia is on an A plate when it is actually older?

This was common practice years ago before many of the rules on changing/selling plates were introduced. I have seen in the past old imported Anglias on J and K plates(from the first time around). Those rules have changed too since those days.

You can get rid of your A plate if you go to your local DVLA office. My 61 anglia van was on an A plate when i first bought it. When i returned it to the road and went to tax it, I just asked for a new age related reg and i got one.

Even in the later years DVLA still dropped clangers as many of the first age related plates were not issued as "non transferable" like they are now.

I know what you mean, I have to say the boffin who dealt with me at the local DVLA just looked at me blankly to start with when i expained what i wanted. I told him to go and speak to someone "senior". He did and all was ok after that, i was even allowed to chose the number I wanted although that is slightly against regulations!!!!

if you do it that way it will need an sva test

 

A vehicle will retain its donor registration mark if either the original unmodified chassis or unaltered monocoque bodyshell and two other major components are used. If a new monocoque bodyshell or chassis from a specialist kit manufacturer is used (or an altered chassis or bodyshell from an existing vehicle) together with two major components from a donor vehicle, an age related mark will be assigned. The mark will be based on the age of the donor vehicle. An ESVA, SVA or MSVA test will be required to register the vehicle.

 

so unless you want a Q plate you will have to build it with the 100e running gear and then swap in the other engine and suspension later lol

Born out of the dvla getting rid of most of all the "old" paper work from the then local vehicle licencing offices in the 70s they had so many claims for numbers for cars that even they couldnt say if the car was real ! this was stopped by the if you dont claim it by........ you loose it adverts ,but they found out they could make money from number plates so... "cherished transfers" became the new thing so you got an old car sold the plate then sold the car with its new plate.. & with the dvla taking its cut !! what your old classic got instead was an "A" plate

This got the then classic car owners clubs backs up as cars lost number plates & its value in the late 80s the dvla said that if your classic has been involved in a cherished transfer you could now claim a FREE age related plate NO FEEs involved These coming from the likes of Ivernesshire (they had loads of them left as apose to some the London areas which had run out of numbers befor the new A plates started !!)

My old 1961 consul started as 87 VTW someone sold the plate it became AJB 929A i then got LSK 910 on it for free !! You didnt get to pick it but it was free..as to if this is still an ongoing offer i dont know ???

Well, just a little update for you and Wilco... I popped over to Sidcup DVLA this morning and told the girl about why I was there. I showed her the date of first registration on the log book and asked her if it can be changed for an age related number.

 

She knew exactly what was what and checked the computer to see if a number was available. The computer said "Yes" Luckily I took all my bits with me, including the tax disc, and she issued the Angle Box with a '3 number, 3 letter' plate free of charge. I got a new MoT certificate, new tax disc and a certificate to prove re-registration.

 

She also told me that I could re-apply for the original registration number if I wrote to an owners club including forms and an original tax disc, but to be honest, I am happy with a standard age related number, and it was all done there and then.

 

All I have to do now is inform the insurance company and get new plates made... i'm a really happy lad today

What a result its nice to know they still do it after all this time !!! i did try & get my cars first number back but it was sold onto a merc for about a grand ...so it stayed with it !

What area plates are they giving out these days mr bob !!!

Unfortunately, I doubt I will be able to get the original plate back as it was sold in 1985... a few weeks later, they sold the car. The plate is currently nailed to a 1972 Porsche, but that hasn't been on the road since 1987

 

The list for all the area codes that I have starts at 1974, so not sure if the older plates will be the same, but according to that, my plate is a Leeds registration *** XUM
