does anyone know a good garage to get my mk1 escort zetec moted? took it to a place this morning but the guy decided he didnt want to mot it because it wasnt the standered engine.he said it was too loud with the twin 45s on sounded like a rally car so wouldnt pass but my brothers old peugeot was louder and passed every mot.He also said that the engine isnt safe because its too heavy for the car lol.He hadnt even moved it when i went to pick it up.think he just couldnt be bothered giving it an mot with it being non standered.He wouldnt even give me a letter saying what the engine size was for the dvla to change it over on the log book.the parts used on the engine are from retro ford and the guy who helped fit it said it should pass the mot no probs.has anyone else had the same problem.or has anyone got a zetec that passed the mot? Are all mot garages like this or is he being lazy? :?

If the car is road legal he is being a bit unreasonable.

 

He may be worried about loosing his licence through passing something through ignorance of what's legal.

 

I'd look for a more OSF friendly garage - but.....

 

Be sure your car is safe for your sake (and your passengers) There is no point having a bit of paper and driving round in a death trap!

A lot garages are the same mate.

 

I'm really lucky that i'm in the trade and have used the same garage for the last 15 years.

 

When i took the Mexico and the modded V8 of Top Gear Steves the guy admitted he didn't know what to look for and he trusted my judgment on whether it was safe or not.

 

In the end his boss did the test as he'd worked on them when he was younger.

really he should have referred you to get an engineers test. rather than give his own judgement .though i may be wrong but isnt a old xflow or pinto heavier than a zetec :?

The MOT man at my local crap fit did'nt like mine year before last (it's on dvla records as dangerous), he did pass it though (dangerous???). Last year I went to somewhere else ( as recommended by a friend), slight issue with testing emissions based on year of engine but tested as pre cat and no nasty note on dvla records. I think it's going to be harder to get an MOT on a modded car as time goes on though. Best of luck finding a tester who know the real score.

i would have no problem getting that tested mate at all,guy is talking out of his a**e

 

and the same has savvi i have used same garage for the last 10 year's mate,

 

i think if you not in the trade then common people like your self who dont have a history with the yester will have problem's :wink::thumbsup:

my old zetec mk2 flew through its MOT, at the end of the day an MOT tester should have enough knowledge to look at a car and know whats safe and not

 

so long as the engine aint hanging out where is his problem

 

i personally would report him to his superiors and to the dvla

the guy souunds a twat,all osf will be pre cat limits either 3.5% or4.0% so it doesent matter what engine is in it as long as at mets those requirements,you can not refuse to do a test on a car because it does not have the original engine in it,im afraid that is not a reason for rejection,i would say he has only tested more modern cars ie 90 onwards & does not want to put his name to an osf,good luck in your search for a decent garage :mrgreen:

Took my xe mk2 escort for mot and he just put pipe up exhaust and said its under the limit for the age of car he was happy, wasnt bothered it was a no std engine or its age, he missed the tyres were not e marked and 2 on back below limit, and the indicators were iffy, and the passenger seat wasnt bolted down, was more interested how i managed to hide all the wiring in the engine bay and it looked like it wasnt connected to anything but was running!

E marking on the tyres is not in the MOT. If your rears are below the limit you should replace them!! Just because the guy is a bit dim does not release you from your resposibility as a driver of a motor vehicle. Tuned modded car, RWD, bald rear tyres, sounds pretty silly to me :wink:

Biggest problem i have with the MOT every year is convincing him its not for sale!!!

Me and my dad have used the same MOT tester for the last 18 years, he knows that we dont run sheds if you know what i mean :wink::wink:

Is the wrong answer. If the age of the engine is known, it is tested to the emission standards of the engine at the date of manufacture if that is older than the car.

 

i.e, If you put an old sidevalve engine in a MK3 Capri, it'll only have to pass a smoke test.

my mot tester got all upset the other day because i turned up in my volvo as the mk2 wasnt ready in time!! he said "i was lookin forward to testin that!" :mrgreen:

cheers guys been away for the last week so now want it moted this week.theres a garage over the road from where i work in mold who somtimes has modified cars in there.and hes got a sticker of a mk1 escort on the side of his van so fingers crossed :)

what engine you have fitted bares no relevance mate ! the m.o.t. test is there to make sure that the vehicle is roadworthy , as long as its not hanging out and the emissions are in check then there should be no problem !
