Do you like the idea of the burrble or the scream? is it your daily? i like the multicarb essex burble and a pinto 45 dcoe bark... but cant have both defo not daily, i couldnt drive that everyday, its a nightmare in traffic.
Toby Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 ........but cant have both Now there's an idea! Oh dear that doesn't help decide then! What do you use it for then mainly? And which engine would perform best for your desired purposes?
ban1216 Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 If it aint a daily then go with your heart not your head
escort21 Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 essex mate...go for a change...that'd so so damn sweet
sambo Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 If it aint a daily then go with your heart not your head That essex on triples will be the tits!
w p e Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 weigh up the pros and con glyn. first weight-pinto heavy-essex f*****g heavy. pinto possible 200hp essex 160ish hp unless spending a fortune on it. essex are a good engine but a lot harder to get good power. its time for a trip to london to find the bark and loose the burp
Conor Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 defo not daily, i couldnt drive that everyday, its a nightmare in traffic. I'll tell you a story. I bought a 2.8i for its performance last October. Seriously tweaked engine that was virtually undrivable below 2000 RPM and then you held on for dear life above it as all hell broke loose. I sold it 3 weeks later because even though when it was on chat it was unbelievable, unless you went out in the middle of the night when you could guarantee no traffic, avoided town or drove everywhere 2 gears below what you'd normally use in order to keep the revs up (which made you deaf), it was nigh on undriveable. I basically had to drive round town in 1st or 2nd gear. For me, it destroyed any enjoyment I got from having a blast out as most of the time was spent having to compromise for its shortfalls. As a car to stick on a trailer, take to a drag strip and blast up the 1/4 mile it was absolutely brilliant but I couldn't go for a run down Scarborough seafront in it and I missed being able to do that. If it were me, if you really want the V6 burble I think I'd be putting in a milder cam, something like a high torque one instead - an equivalent of the Pinto FR30/31 or FR32.

I get the feeling that's kind of playing on his mind somewhat.
EscortHeadCase Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 or.... 2.9 24v on tripple carb set up + supercharger/twin turbos oror both.
richie_stix Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 actually... yeah, a supercharged cossie v6
Takeshi Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 Depends really what you mean by "keep going".... If you intend you hot up the pinto for high power etc in the end, then you may aswell go for the V6 since from what I can tell the thing thats stopping you is the fuel consumption and drive - ability, and since a snorting pinto wont be very useable in traffic and I cant see it being loads better than the V6 in fuel. My 2 cents.
brettp Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 what a out a small block best of both worlds tonnes of power sound the tits cheap for bits

My pinto is around 200 (I only have a wheels figure not a flywheel figure) at the flywheel and I can drive it round town, to the shops and back or even crawl through stop start traffic on the motorway with no issues at all.
X-pack-Glyn Posted June 3, 2009 Author Report Posted June 3, 2009 i think il stick with OHC, bits are still cheap and when they go bang they easy ish to find still.... when essex go bang they take some findi and too heavy!

Had to let the cars in front get off some distance before setting off. Whilst cam profiles may have improved a bit, the main things involved in tuning them to this level have remained the same - wild high lift cam with quite a bit of overlap and not a lot under 2000 RPM.

When we used to run the RS2000 in historics the engine was brilliant (about 194bhp) pulled from low, had shed loads of torque, idled well and was a great engine to drive
EscortHeadCase Posted June 4, 2009 Report Posted June 4, 2009 Both are good options. It all just comes down to personal preference. For me although there are plenty of nice four pot capris, It would have to be 24valve cossie, Cheap , reliable, 200bhp with the Bob cams and the best bit ..the noise..
