BUT as much fun as i have had its not al been plain sailing....such as.. battery was knackered condenser packed up carb manifold was warped rocker cover wasnt on right so it ran shite! exhaust has fallen off TWICE! and when its cold petrol freezes in my carb thanks to the k&n! and the AA towed me home last week and i even thought of selling it and buying a more modern car BUT something told me to keep teh car and fix it. so got on the blower to peter lloyd rallying for a 2inch exhaust. arrived the other day. took the car to the garage today wondering if this was a waste of time because something else will only go wrong! got it back just now and went for a test drive..MY GOD I LOVE THE CAR! MY FAITH IS RESTORED! now my alternator is shagged but new one is on its way. and its getting bodywork in january and full adjustable suspension in january too. moral of the story: DONT GIVE UP BECAUSE ALL WILL PAY OFF IN THE END! i love my car (excuse my rambling but im just happy at the moment)

But your right, never give up. It is too easy to think, "o.k, that's it, get a modern car", not to mention any friends and family giving you grief, "why don't you get a more modern car, damn sight more reliable". I will never sell my 2, and I love them both because they are different. I can't wait for the day the Anglia has it's new engine, and the Capri drives where I want it to instead of the front wheels going where they feel like going. Never Give Up
antz Posted December 19, 2006 Author Report Posted December 19, 2006 i got stick from everyone about ym car! my boss at work today was moaning about that his mondeo cost him £355 for an MOT. he said 'i could buy your car for that!' my reply: STICK A 2 INFRONT OF THE 335 AND YOU CAN BUY MY CAR OFF ME! stupid tit never give up, never surrender! just go for a drive and all faith will be restored! .

Th £300 worth of weldin turned into about £500 worth by the time I'd had a prod with the screwdriver Plus the new screen and assorted other bits... The Escy's gonna be virtually a New-Old Skool car, 1/2 a shell replaced, suspension, engine, etc.... You get the idea Its well worth it in the end.... I fookin love my Capri and I'm chuffed to bits with my £400 investment. God only knows what I'll be like when th escy's on the road...

Got rid of a really nice 2.8 capper that needed a little bit of work thought i'd save myself the trouble so sold it and bought vauxhall omega 2.0 estate(Sorry but I have a big fetish for american wagons but thats another story) had to replace the engine once then take the so called good one out and rebuild it cos the cam belt had snapped at some point (8 bent valves) in the end I had to get rid of it so I fell asleep at the wheel and had a head on with a volvo !! lots of pain but no one was seriously hurt used my insurance money to buy another Capper havent looked back since and I get a hell of a buzz driving to work everytime so no more sleepy moments OLD SKOOL FORDS ARE SAFER THAN NEW CARS and LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES

My front suspension is knocking like a bastard at each poxy pothole and speed bump I encounter. I do have a new set of rufurbed bilsteins to go on tho I've never attempted to swap struts before so am holding out until I get some help or get an idiots guide. My engine is pinking apparently. I took it to Boss racing but the mans away in America for a while so no change there Driving back from London last night the exhaust started blowing at the manifold to exhaust joint. The windscreen rubber leaks so I can't put any carpet in until I fixed that. I still need a drivers side wingmirror. One of my brake pipes has a slight leak. The fan belt has started slipping so went to get a new one and they sold me the wrong one (too small) Bought a new alternator the other day and it turned out I didn't need it. Tried to get some touch up paint in my colour for some chips on the inside door frames and was told they don't make that colour anymore coz it has lead in it. I'm also stripping the engine bay by hand ready for a tidy and repainting. To top everything off it's becoming almost impossible to put into gear because a stupid D clip was left out when fitting the clutch release bearing arghhhhhhhhh! I have lots to do this winter and my faith will no doubt be tested. Together we will get through it!

I've had loads go wrong with my van in the first couple of months since getting it MOTd, but now I seem to have got most problems sorted out. Yes, something will break in the future, but I know that. And I wouldn't swap it for the world.

But it was soooo worth it all when I got it right! Touch wood, coming up for nearly 2 years of trouble free motoring soon!
kms Posted December 20, 2006 Report Posted December 20, 2006 It's very easy to give up - we did once. The mk2 kept breaking props and diffs and then when we'd get it sorted something else would go. Simon gave up and sold it We bought a mk3 Supra - It was fun but there was just something missing A little while later it all became too much - we bought the escort back ( for a lot more than we sold it for), realised we couldn't live without it. Drove it on the road for a year or so then parked it up in the garage ready for resto. It still sits there now but it doesn't matter that it's not on the road, we still have it and can one day enjoy our baby again. Never give up - you'll only regret it!

I sold my OSFs and kit car partly because of reliability issues, more money stress than anything else. My problem is spending every penny i have on the car and not keeping money aside for the inevitable repairs. Got myself a second job now so should have enough money to get another in the summer (crossed fingers). Pray for me.

OSF will and do go wrong more often than modern cars but relatively speaking they are so much easier and cheaper to fix. When my escort has broken down at the roadside 90% of the time I've been able to fix it at the roadside with a good toolkit and a small stock of spares I keep. I could change the head gasket at a petrol station and be underway in a few hours, try that on a 20valve volvo. If my bottom end goes £600 buys a new one, the same price as some Mercs headlamp units. Don't fall into the mstake of thinking a new car will automatically be less hassle. When they do go wrong the time and money involved goes skyhigh!! may the Force be with all your cars! antz Posted December 20, 2006 Author Report Posted December 20, 2006 thanks everyone! i was pissed off when it broke down all them many times BUT a new condenser was £4, alternator £15, full 2 inch exhaust and 4 branch manifold was £145.....cant beat it! especially when jeep quoted my dad £500 just to take his rear diff apart and have a look to see why it was whining. they wernt even gonna fix it for that! it was £4k for a new diff!!!! he sold the car 2 weeks later i do love my car. it just pisses me off when it acts up roll on summer and I WILL be at the shows
