FredTransit Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 Council officers towed away a taxed and MOT-ed car because its owner left it unattended for a few weeks. Officers working for Bedford Borough Council claimed that they had reason to believe the car had been abandoned and are threatening to crush it. Shit! WTF has it got to do with them, if it's taxed?
morcheen Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 there used to be a law about vehicles that had not moved, even if taxed, could be said to be abandoned and removed ,but never heard of it happen before! anything for more cash
FredTransit Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 Surely if it's taxed it has a right to be on the road, until it's not taxed, whether it moves or not!
oldskoolfred Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 thats the sillyest thing i ever hurd of like you lot said if its taxed so what ??? some one didnt like it there and has reported it !!! what happens if he got back from working away and they crushed it !! i would be rageing !!
Ken B Posted July 16, 2009 Author Report Posted July 16, 2009 I have heard of similar stories before not neccessarily involving the Beds CC, but the one case i remember that sticks in my mind, reported in a national newspaper a few years back, a guy was restoring an MGB on his drive. When he came back from a 2 week holiday it had gone. Turned out his local council had towed it away crushed it. Apparently some busy body had reported it to the council as being dumped, so they came along on to his private property and took it away.
flyingbanana Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 thats sums up the beds cc perfectly ............bunch of winkers
oldskoolfred Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 OMG !!!!!!!!!! what did he do when he found out it had been crushed ??? i would be out for bblood from who eva reported it and the stupid driver who got it from the driveway !!
bortaf Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 Nowt new there, been happening for years? In the paper a few years back a bloke went away for a month on holiday when he got home the council had crushed his split window camper cos somone had apparently complained about it being dumped, they send a letter to the registerd owner and allow 14 days for you to reply, i've had quite a few through the door when i used to forget to send off log books ect, even had 2 about me recovery that's been parked for 6 months after a crash and is roadworthy, told the council it's awaiting a desision but they want it moved in a week or they will (well they wont cos it's too long to fit on the hiab lorry and way over weight for the hiab arm) remove it. It's becoming a pain as i have to tow it to a differant spot on me estate weekly, i think i'll just run the whole lot in (car on the back and all) TBH cos they are really getting on at me about it and threatening to evict me and shit
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 they must have other work to do rather than removing road worthy cars
Fiesta Steve Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 they must have other work to do rather than removing road worthy cars Doubt it, like the police just out to make money
hellblue Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 The papers had one about a car that was moved (lifted) to sort a road out & new yellow lines marked the car was the put back in its place ..... great till some twat put a ticket on it cos it was parked on yellow lines ! but yes this shit has gone on for years its mostly down to some one reporting it to start with so look close to home !!
bortaf Posted July 16, 2009 Report Posted July 16, 2009 they must have other work to do rather than removing road worthy cars Doubt it, like the police just out to make money Got bugger all to do with the police it's a council thing, they are really clamping down round here (no pun intended) i've had to empty me garage and start putting the car back in there cos they came round and checked every garage had a car that was taxed and insuredm, i use the garage for house staorage cos there's 5 of us in 3 bedrooms so no room to store stuff, me youngests bedromm is a 6Ft by 3 Ft cupnoard so no storage in the house It is getting silly, me mums disabled motor keeps getting tickets parked in the drive to her garage (they can't lift a disabled vehical) cos it blocks the drop curb they put in so the wheel chair can access the drive and vehical ! I saw that line painting one in the paper, somone vidoed them doing it
