If any of you guys out there are interested in the Anniversary of the Moon Landing 40 years ago.

I was told about a great site, as link below.

It has loads of info and a sort of live real time comm's feed from 40 years ago between NASA and Apollo 11. You can leave running in the back ground, at least when theres no static 8)

It's good hearing the tech stuff they were talking about, (if they aren't asleep) It should get more interesting in a day or two when the moon landing starts.

Or am I just being a geek :)

But did it happen?

I will try not to sit on the fence, but...

I personally think that the conspiracy theories are complete bunkum.

Me to, I remember at the time. Being an old git, that there was a Russian space craft hanging about at the time. They must have been tracking it and I'm sure if they hadn't landed, the Russian's would have been happy to let the world know about it.

Ditto.

A bit of trivia for today's computer generation, the computing power of the lunar module was allegedly less than you'd find in a modern mobile phone! I don't fancy going into space powered by a Nokia!

Taken from Sky News Website: (talking about Moon Landing Videos)

------------

Originally, Armstrong's face visor was too fuzzy to be seen. The refurbished video shows his visor and a reflection in it.

The original footage was stored on giant reels of tapes that contained 15 minutes of video.

In the 1970s and 1980s, Nasa had a shortage of the tapes and erased about 200,000 of them and even reused them.

The space agency can still not find its lost original Moon landing videotapes. But that first moonwalk has never looked better, thanks to the digitally refurbished copies unveiled.

So they can afford to put someone on the moon, but they run out of video tape????

Hmmmmm..... I'm sure something as valuable as that would have had copies, and would be very securely stored.

if they really did go to the moon

.......why cant they go back?

there was also stories of them finding an ET base up there but it all got hushed up very quickly

They can and they are (though I'm not really sure I understand what for). Unless you plan on sending them back up there astride 30+ year old Saturn 5 rockets and pulling the lunar modules out of the museums though, it's going to take some time and money to put together.

Exactly, the USA government might be able to hush up it's own people, but no way could they stop the Russians blabbing! I think they went, and the reason they don't go back is money, simple as.

At the moment there is no need to is there? They know it is a rock, and they whipped a few samples whilst they were there. So until there is a reason to go then it would be a bit of an expensive waste

There are places that I have been, I know whats there, and I dont need to go back. so I dont.

You do realise they went there 4 times don't you? (maned flights) and many unmaned.

So the argument why didn't they go back is flawed fron the start, the Russians also landed (unmaned) on the moon many times, the reason they havn't been back recently is there's no need to, already been there, read the book, own the T shirt

There rumours of an alien base in my underpants as well, you wanna beleive that as well

and NO you can't investigate that one you'll just have to take my word for it, even if the wife says there's enough room for one :lol::lol:

Personally,

It may or may not have happened.

My feelings on this are due to growing up in a Cold War era - all be it the tail end - United States, and a pre/post 9/11 United States. (Or 11/9 for you folks.)

If you look at the kind of budget we had back in the 1950's and some of the books that showed the Aircraft in the 50's and 60's - These things were HUGE! (I remember looking at a lot of the remaining of books from the 1950's and 60's in my public school library - probably a testament to the fact that they also spent more money on education in the 50's and 60's then any decade since, and I guess it would also qualify as propaganda too...)

And if you go to the RAF Museum in London there are several Cold War examples of Aircraft. They are some of the biggest things ever to fly.

So NASA has also been around and had huge budgets back then, but I think the possibility of having a moon landing cover story is possible too. I don't know, I'm up in the air about it.

Knowing what I have learned since 9/11 about some of the cover stories about the invasion of Iraq and the fumbled CIA operation "Rock Stars", the fact that discovering the Titanic was actually a cover story for a Russian submarine that Robert Ballard was also looking for at the time.

All this stuff is true, you can even look it up. Many of the so called peaceful shuttle missions were actually, study missions and spy satellites to check out Russian and other countries equipment in space.

And the fact that some how George Bush ran the country here for the past eight years really shakes my faith in the USA.

That being said, if we did land on the moon, how come we have not been back? Why are our space shuttles falling apart? Could it all have been to Psychologically beat the Soviets?

If there was a problem with a tether experiment in one of the earlier shuttle missions and too much "radiation" for the shuttle to go out further into orbit, how the hell did these guys survive going far past the radiation belt in the 1960's?

Then again - People, much like the cars back then were built a lot tougher...

I can't think of a single American that I know personally that can fix or build something on their own like my grandfathers did, or one that doesn't shop at Walmart.

They went to the moon, they left enough stuff up there. There are even pictures of the lander descent stages. (Not that you can really tell what they are.)

More importantly the left reflectors thats scientists all over the world bounce lasers off to measure the distance between the earth and the moon.

The nice people at Jodrell Bank tracked them as they did with the Russian missions.

Why don't we go back? Cost, it ain't cheap.

Oddly enough a lot of people at NASA believe that Concorde was a greater achivment than Apollo.

If it was a hoax the Russians would have blown the whistle long ago.
