Admin Mk2Jo Posted October 8, 2009 Admin Report Posted October 8, 2009 ... that on this day in 1980, the humble Mini Metro was released to the public It was the car I learned to drive in back in 1985 with BSM and what a car it was Tell us YOUR memories of the Mini Metro
MM77 Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 I remember it very very clearly. The year was 2009 and Mk2Jo posted a thread about the Mini Metro on a website. It was my first exposure to this car, and a moment I will never forget.
Jiffer Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 my memories of the nasty little things was bringing my oldest lad home in my mg met when he was born and when part of the rear subframe decided to part company with the rest of the car , not all bad when i got shot, i got my xr3 oh happy days
Stu_B Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 I stayed at a mates when I was about 12 & we spent the day doing a weird offroad banger race/hill climb/orienteering thing in one with his Dad. Pumped up hydro elastic suspension for ground clearance it broke & we all piled into a beetle! I also stripped the seats, centre console & red seatbelts out of an Mg one to fit in a mini when I was 18 or 19
Noodles Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 Sarah used to auto test one when she was 14
Smudger105e Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 We've had 2 (if Rover 100 counts as a Metro) First one we had got nicked, but thety were obviously crap TWOCers because they only made it about 40 yards, didnt even get it off the close! The purple Rover 100 we had, the hydrospastic suspension collapsed, we still had to use it with the ass end right on the floor. When Mr Plod stopped Mrs Smudger, she put on the "is there something wrong with it Officer? I didn't notice, but I don't know much about cars" act
caprinerd Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 i was an appretice at University motors in hanwell W7 when they were realeased and remember that they were recalled to have the steering bolts turned round as they caught the floor and steering use to lock up
mk1mexico Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 When i was 11 years old i was doing headgaskets and the like on them at my dads garage. And that pesky little 2 inch water pipe under the head is a right TW*T
Boreham Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 horrible car... .... until someone crashed a JaguarXJ220 .... backwards into one..in tesco's and while prizing them apart ... this was the outcome... 6 R 4

garyv6100e Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 My wife had a silver MG Metro she thought is was good at the time until i got her a XR2
Monkfish Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 Learned to drive in one, and was so pitifully gutless that I had to apologise to the test examiner for failing to keep up with the flow of traffic.
jimbo Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 Wow!! Just realised how they've cropped up in my life. My first exposure to mechanics was removing an MG Metro engine. Which was then bored out (I think to 1580), uprated and fitted into a Mini. Went like stink!! And I learnt to drive, and passed my test in one too.......
X FLOW EDDY Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 A mate of mine has a white MG Metro turbo which goes like hell inbetween blowing head gaskets
Wessie Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 i've had about 10 of the fooking things, ideal for nicking engines and brakes from for our racers had one on the road for abit (got it for free) that lasted until a handbrake turn in a field, with ditch metro madness at wimbo used to be the bollox bout 60 of the bloody things charging around

MightySprocket Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 had a few MGs years ago, they were cheap as chips and great fun the last one I had was a little rusty round the filler neck.. it used to dissapear behind the quarter so i couldnt put petrol in it untill i found it they also had a reputation of spilling fuel out of the filler when cornered hard... which was most of the time
