qwerty Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 TBF Sambo. just because you don't get it doesn't make it a bad idea Each to their own I say Agree! I've seen OSF's with what I would class as hurrendous modifications. But its got nowt to do with me. If they think its the cats pyjamas good for them. Their ride, their way. I can see your point about it not necessarily being in the spirit of all OSF's. Personally I wouldn't diesel an Escort or a Capri but then I wouldn't Pinto an Anglia...... However in the right car I think it would work really well. As i've already mentioned I'd love a 1.8TD Mk5 Cortina Estate as it would be perfect for me as a daily.
JAY PS Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 I was talking to someone at boxhill who new someone who was building a spaceframed Mk1 Escort with a 330d BMW engine in it ,in standard trim over 200bhp . We had until recently a 530d ,its one of the best engines ive ever had ,quiet ,very quick and over 30mpg most of the time . Think the ford engine is a bit crap but wouldnt take must to change it to a V6 or an 8"
sambo Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 TBF Sambo. just because you don't get it doesn't make it a bad idea Each to their own I say Very true, but he did ask for our thoughts Sorry, i have been a little too forcefull with my opions lately! Cant help it, but i just shudder to think of a MK1 or mk2 escort rattling down the road blowing out black smoke as it goes. The image in my mind causes me pain!
Andrade Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 Very true, but he did ask for our thoughts Sorry, i have been a little too forcefull with my opions lately! Cant help it, but i just shudder to think of a MK1 or mk2 escort rattling down the road blowing out black smoke as it goes. The image in my mind causes me pain! I know how you feel.. I saw a mk1 capri doing that... I still have nightmares and wake up at night screaming.
Andrade Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 Is the point of owning an OSF or any classic car to be able to enjoy that car? Is it not far better to drive an OSF with a Diesel than a modern box? They're pretty big into diesel Drag racing in Malta aren't they? I dont think big is the word. however there is a diesel drag racing class. I dont know much about drag racing, not that interested myself. but you might find some more info here: www.maltadragracing.com (put the volume down)
V8ian Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 Just to throw another thought into the pile, Fords were fotted with diesels from the factory, 400E Thames Van, Transits, and CARS too, you could certainly buy a Mk2 Counsul with a Perkins Diesel, and the option was available with the Mk3 Zephyr, then you can drag the Mk2 Granada into the argument, and I have an idea Mk1 & 2 grannies had a TAXI option which was full vinyl and a 2.3d engine. deffo had mk2s with the D option
Boreham Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 while all the diesel tech banter was going on... it was being stalked ... by a mk1 mexico ....
Andrade Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 by a mk1 mexico .... with the same color as the capri! he's been around fopr quite a while i'd say. call the police
