Admin Mk2Jo Posted October 23, 2009 Admin Report Posted October 23, 2009 Who's to blame here then? Shat Nav for giving out the wrong directions or the dodgy delivery driver for going that far down the path before realising it wasn't a road An Asda delivery driver got into a tight spot - after blindly following his satnav into dense woodland. The supermarket worker became the latest motorist to have his senses switched off by the hi-tech guidance system after getting his 6ft-wide van stuck down a 3ft-wide footpath. Confused cyclists and hikers watched in disbelief as the blundering white van man eventually had to abandon his Mercedes vehicle near Rosendale, Lancashire. Onlooker David Bissett, 32, said: "I was amazed it had got down so far and I wondered how it was going to get back out. "You can't fault Asda for reaching the parts that other supermarkets can't reach." The RAC were called out and the van, which was delivering food from Asda's Pilsworth store in Bury to a nearby farm, was freed after an hour. A spokeswoman for Asda tried to make light of the blunder. She said: "Unfortunately one of our home shopping vans took a wrong turn and got into a bit of a pickle. "Thankfully the RAC was quick to come to the driver's rescue so it wasn't long before our intended customers received their weekly shop." Lancashire County Council said it is considering placing bollards and signs to prevent similar incidents happening again. "I wouldn't blindly follow my satnav but some unfortunately do. At the end of the day common sense should prevail," said Edenfield councillor Darryl Smith. "A constituent alerted me that a minibus taking people to Manchester Airport became stuck in the same spot not long ago. "It seems to be one of the unluckiest footpaths in the area at the moment."
Rusty Dan Posted October 23, 2009 Report Posted October 23, 2009 Hahaha This is exactly why I use an A to Z and my noggin
RossMK2 Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 sat nav are good when they take to the right place
sab6024 Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 My Sat Nav is a god send but to be fair when I'm using it and driving I find keeping my eyes open and using an ounce of common sense helps
RETRO_AL Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 I used my saynav the other day to get to a job,it was a farm in the middle of noware and i got to a small bridge and told me to turn left on the bridge but there was no road,i would have had to smash through the wall and onto the field if i did what it said some people have no common sense ps i bet it was a doris
FredTransit Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 That's the point, some people don't use their common sense.
bortaf Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 It's obv the sat navs fault for not being more intelligent than the driver Though by that rational a field mouse would do as a navigation aid as it would obv be more intelligent than that driver
nitrousnutter Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 haha this happened to me once with my shatnav, when i first got it a couple of years ago lol, was up in suffolk somewhere and had to get the other side of a railway line lol, i followed satnav as it had got me to that point from kent no probs, i went up a small lane and it got narrower and narrower lol, i thought f*** this and stopped and walked up it about 100 yds and there was a f***ing footbridge to cross lol great how am i gonna get my renault kangoo over that the dukes of hazard im not haha. still at least i didnt blindly follow it to the end lol i just reversed and thank god for get back on track lol
caprinerd Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 there was a story in the news not long ago about a doris that nearly drove off a cliff in the dark because her sat nav took her down a dirt road if the satnav takes me off road then there`s something wrong and id stop
baz105e Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 haha and this is meant to be a 'profesional' van driver
rallyesport04 Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 couldnt have even been slightly thinking what they were doin if it told you to drive into the sea or off a cliff would you sat navs are great if used with some common sense otherwise they can send you round in circles if your not too careful

RETRO_AL Posted October 29, 2009 Report Posted October 29, 2009 Its a bit like the daft yank who thought they could go in the back of the campervan because cruise control was on

Admin Vista Posted October 6, 2010 Admin Report Posted October 6, 2010 Another crap nav screw up, why do people follow these things so blindly? A Canadian doris had to be rescued from the roof of her submerged car after driving into an isolated marsh as she relied on GPS navigation, police said Wednesday. The Ontario Provincial Police said the doris called 911 emergency services on her cellphone for help, after she became lost on her way to work east of Toronto late Tuesday. "She advised she was standing on top of her car as it was submerged in a heavy marsh," police said in a statement. "She was following her GPS (Global Positioning System) directions and became lost." The vehicle had become stuck in mud and quickly began filling up with water. Rescuers searched the conservation area until finally she was spotted "in the middle of the marsh" by firefighters dressed in wet suits who waded into the waist deep water.
tim Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldne ... ntain.html
1960prefect Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldne ... ntain.html fook that.. that path/drop looks well sketchy
D4N Posted October 6, 2010 Report Posted October 6, 2010 Lad I know recovers heavy vehicles and he has recovered a fair few big wagons following the sat nav into a forest.
Von Thrash Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 Im trying to get sat navs banned at my work. We have drivers who used an A-Z and common sense and got places fine, no bother. Now they just switch off their brain and blame the fooking thing when it sends them down a dead end/road into a lake/on to a beach/off the end of a fooking pier!!! Normally in a 26 tonne wagon towing something!! And another thing! I see cars with sat navs stuck on middle of the screen, directly in the drivers line of vision. So if they're on a straight flat road, it completely blocks their view of the rear of YOUR beloved osf!!! I had some bint in a Hyundi (im glad i can't spell it ) cackbox lock up behind me at some lights the other day, Once i'd finished shitting myself, i got out to see if she was alright, and suprise, suprise, a satnav the size of a fooking laptop smack bang in front of her pretty, but empty as fook head. I want to start a campaign to get all satnavs gathered up and burnt in a big pile (like nazis with books) WHO'S WITH ME!!
Admin Vista Posted October 7, 2010 Admin Report Posted October 7, 2010 I want to start a campaign to get all satnavs gathered up and burnt in a big pile (like nazis with books) WHO'S WITH ME!! Sorry, no support from me on that one. Used sensibly (and kept up to date) I think they're marvellous.
