m1c Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 whats everyones thoughts on them... cheap runaround for older folk, but have the young 'uns given them a bad name?
Admin Vista Posted January 5, 2010 Admin Report Posted January 5, 2010 I think they had a bad name for a while but younguns have largely moved on now. Most of our cars had a bad name at some point or another, the capri took years to shake off the wide boy / Del trotter image unfairly given to it by the media
Stu_B Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 I like seeing nova's now! Theres a couple of stanard looking GSi/ GTe's near me. Been a while since they were a boy racer car
stuartp Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 always loved a little nova, early astras too and cavaliers for that matter should i be admitting that on a ford forum?
flyingbanana Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 they def are cheap run around got one for £50 quid ran it for 4 years without any maintance and got £70 weighing it in once it needed welding
pnwrs2000 Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 I hate Vauxhalls but must confess that i had a nice little black GSI about 5 years ago and it was fookin ace ! It cost me about £200 IIRC and after a morning playing around with my mates welder, it flew through a genuine MOT. Why is it that the cheap, shit cars are never the ones you have an off in, usually !
baz105e Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 there aint many clean novas about anymore, the boy racers have gone off them and gone onto corsas and fooking saxos ive never understood the boy racer mentality
oxb1l Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 I remember about 15 years ago a fella from work went down Kent area for hols and he returned sayin that wherever he went there were idiots like me had been happily driving along a country lane when a yellow mk2 came round a corner broad side Auld git L8r Bill
davreeve Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 Ran one for a season in rookie rods, easy to repair and went well.As already said the boy racers have moved on to other motors plus as you now dont see them everyday .Good motors IMO
stevepeanut Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 I remember about 15 years ago a fella from work went down Kent area for hols and he returned sayin that wherever he went there were idiots like me had been happily driving along a country lane when a yellow mk2 came round a corner broad side Auld git L8r Bill is this in the wrond thread? or is it a yellow mk2 nova?
Mr Sam Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 my mum had 3 or 4 novas when i was growing up and i hated them however there a nice site these days as there so thin on the ground, saw a saloon t'other day
retrorigg Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 ive had loasda nova,s , gte,s and gsi, raced them aswell, gte,s n gsi are nice n pokey, the latter mk2 model rotted more than the mk1,s but they do all rot, prices are rising quickly, not many around for less than 500 quid for a basic one, watch for rot on the chassis at the rear were the rear springs sit, inner wings around the strut tops, rear boot corners front cross members , and passenger front n rear floors, oh and the chassis legs at the front, this is how one of mine ended up seem to crumple in a roll tho lol
mk1super Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 I remember about 15 years ago a fella from work went down Kent area for hols and he returned sayin that wherever he went there were idiots like me had been happily driving along a country lane when a yellow mk2 came round a corner broad side Auld git L8r Bill is this in the wrond thread? or is it a yellow mk2 nova? I get what he means at some point all cars that are quick fall into "Boy Racers" hands at one time it was pretty much most of the cars on here that were the then "Boy Racers" tools of choice, could it be that Novas are fallling into the old skool band/classic band
retrorigg Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 nova,s are going the same way as escorts, rally history, (ok not as bigger history file but well rallied non the less) as were mk 2 escorts they were available on every street corner for £50 , we used mk2 escorts for autograss until there was non left, novas are now running out are very hard to find now and the people that have them stockpiled for racing are,nt letting them go, (my mate has 7 stored) ive sold 3 recently and they were snapped up and went for a very good price (sold within a day of listing on ebay , the phone must have rang 40 times for them ) basic models are been done up to look like gte,s and gsi,s (as were mk2 escorts to look like rs,s etc a lot of local rally boys are giving good money for them and breaking them, (as they did with the mk2 escy) i think if you can find them at the right price, keep hold of them coz i think in a few years time they,ll be sought after like the escorts are now, we never saw the escort been like it is now did we , mark my words lol
antz Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 when i was going up the M6 last October I saw a Nova GSI in minty mint condition being driven by a little old lady. Pissing down with rain and she was tootling along doing 50mph. I hate Novas but dear god, if I could of spoke to her when the car was stood still I would of offered cash for the car it was that clean
bigglesmk2 Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 A fella 2doors down has one hes just finished rebuilding Its a genuine SR and he put a calibra redtop in it,stripped out the interior and caged it but left the outside standard, looks the danglys IMO
Timbo Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 I had a nova as my second car, 1.4 gs. lved it till it blew up. great fun to drive
rallyesport04 Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 its lost its boyracer image now so i would have a gsi or one with a red top in it if it was v.v. cheap would be a bit of a weapon 150bhp std in a car that weighs f all
stevepeanut Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 always used to be a boy racer car for me, never liked them until I got a go of my mates quick sri nova and really liked it. well the boys have moved onto more modern cars now, so they are kinda retrol cool I think now dont see many around, be nice to see a neat one, with a sorted engine in it
Skoty Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 i hate vauxhalls with a passion. but iv always secretly liked the look of the nova, and the chevette. you dont see much novas about anymore, theres one chav got one round my way. he must just be really poor lol. i wouldnt call them a 'boy racer' car anymore. after all the cortina used to be a 'boy racer' car lol
oxb1l Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 I think they had a bad name for a while but younguns have largely moved on now. Most of our cars had a bad name at some point or another, the capri took years to shake off the wide boy / Del trotter image unfairly given to it by the media my post was relating to this post but done on my phone as usual and missed some text Nova cool wee cars with plenty motorsport background and potential for mods L8r Bill
