DAZZA Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Are there any Legal/MOT/safety obligations agaisnt having a battery inside the car?
NeilT Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 i dont no for sure but i cant see it being a problem beatals have there batt inside the car from standard as long as its fixed down correctly it should be fine
sambo Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Dont think so mate, i guess it will need to be secure though! I have mine in the car behind the passenger seat and have had no worries! Mind you, i have no cable hand-brake and i still get through!
Jiffer Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 all my new shape transits have battery in the cab under the drivers seat
Stu_B Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Mine just sits in a box in the boot, its not strapped down or anything & nothings ever been mentioned
5.0S-teve Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 I believe by law it's meant to be in a sealed box mate, i've got mine in the boot of my capri, housed in a modified MK3 M0NDEO battery box. MOT station said it was fine like that
deltamal Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Mine's behind the passenger seat on my VW LT beavertail, standard fitment.....
Andrade Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 my brother has an audi and it's under the rear seat from factory
aden Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 im a tester mate and inside the car is fine, but make sure it is secure i would fail it if it wasnt for being dangerous
m1c Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 in a mini clubman estate the battery is under the rear seat, secured but not covered.
Fiesta Steve Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 Vauxhalls's and shitrons have them inside the car too
Timbo Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 i had a bmw 535 and the batt was under the back seats from standard
Grizzley Dell Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 it must be secure, doesnt have to be covered.
Beakster Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 Must be secure to pass MOT, but also new batteries have a vent on them. Its like a little pipe. You should connect this to a tube which vents to outside the car ideally so any fumes generated when its charging don't come into the cab. Not essential, but a good idea.
Toby Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 I'd stick it in a box - for your own sake.
Toby Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 in a mini clubman estate the battery is under the rear seat, secured but not covered. Is there a hole in the seat then?
Tom Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 im a tester mate and inside the car is fine, but make sure it is secure i would fail it if it wasnt for being dangerous I'm sure an insecure battery isn't a failure?
Tom Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 Its not http://www.motester.co.uk/MOTQuiz/MOTQuizAnswers.aspx
caprinerd Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 i had a bmw 535 and the batt was under the back seats from standard some audi`s and mercs also have them there and also mgbgt is under the back seat as well i have mine where the back seat was but is covered and clamped down
X-pack-Glyn Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 i dont no for sure but i cant see it being a problem beatals have there batt inside the car from standard as long as its fixed down correctly it should be fine WTF is a beatel???
RETRO_AL Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 He means a vw beatle even if you dont have to have secure it,it makes sense to secure it down, getting hit on the head with one wouldnt be nice if you crash
aden Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 Its not http://www.motester.co.uk/MOTQuiz/MOTQuizAnswers.aspx no your right it isnt but didnt want to say that coz i dont recommend anybody drives about with an insecure battery
FredTransit Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 an unsecured battery isn't a failure, but I am 99% sure it's against the C&U regs, and if it's spotted by VOSA you will get a ticket for it. As already said the newer transits all have the battery under the driver's seat....
