bortaf Posted January 5, 2007 Report Posted January 5, 2007 Dollys and A frames are different things, dollys are what you drive a cars front wheels on, A frame clamps to the front of the car. There are A frames about with a built in brake activation that uses an hydrolic master cylinder in the tow hitch and operates a piston rod on the towed cars brake peddle (bracktry needed to bolt to the driver seat runner), large Yank camper vans have used them for years to get around the 750 unbraked trailor rule in europe (specialy spain where it's on the spot fines and not aload to carry on towing type shit ) Trouble with a trailor is you need a 4X4 to tow it with, most transits ect don't have enough towing capacity for a decent trailor and a car on it especialy if the vans loaded

It was a part finished 3 litre capri and both the trailer and the van were heavily heavily laden. we left Brum at about 9.30 P.M. and arrived back in Cornwall at about 7.00 am (normally a 4 hr drive) having been lucky to make 35mph down the M5! That van went back to the hire firm seriously worse for wear, Thank Fk all they checked was that the fuel gauge read full

YES !! Go on my son !! Thats what its about ! Drive it and enjoy it I only have a semi helical box, and I do have a CD player.. BUT I tried listening to Motorhead the other day and the induction roar and gearbox whine was louder than the stereo would go... So I'll save that for when I'm sitting at the roadside waiting for the RAC The RAC / AA will take you from Lands End to John O'Groats if you need to go that far so realllllllly long journeys arent an issue. The only thing they have got a little cuter about is if you break down at a race venue, ie the Pod, or somewhere where there is a trackday going on, they can refuse to recover you because potentially you have broken the car using it in a manner not akin with normal driving. I know a while back a friend of ours had a little autication at a track day, they pushed the car outside the circuit and when the Recovery company turned up they rang Race Control to see if it had been on track.
LUKE261 Posted January 5, 2007 Report Posted January 5, 2007 im gunna a frame my car this year, only because im 20 and legally cant tow a trailor, when i used 2 race i had a transit transporter 2 overcome the problem, but there aint no law stating i have 2 take a test to tow with an a frame like there is a trailer so bugger it. gunna tow the anglia 2 the pod with a frame.

GAZ DOES HAVE A POINT! Is a bit easier to tow your old rattler up on an A frame to the pod or where ever but it seems there are alot of legalities limiting this! But the best ways gotta be a trailer! Don't matter if you tear the car in half then! OR ARE WE JUST FORGETTING THAT OUR CARS ARE FAST ROAD CARS NOT RACE CARS!

The only reason i know this is cos i got pulled using my A frame last month towing a shell into the scrap and got the full lecture from a VOSA official, me mate had to leave his car in notts and go back to scotland and get a trailer to retreave get it cos he got pulled by VOSA using an A frame a week earlyer
