Can anyone reccomend a company they have used. AA, RAC etc are no good as the car is 31 years old and they dont want to know.

I have it thrown in with the insurance on the capri but my new insurer does'nt offer it.

The capri broke down on the Snowdonia Tour last year with a destroyed wheel bearing in the middle of nowhere, the recovery driver told me the bill would have been over £350 to take me home if I was'nt covered, so it was worth the extra little bit on top of my premiums IMO just to be on the safe side.

We've got recovery breakdown with Britannia Rescue .... Ian has used them a couple of times for DEP and they were very good I believe  The policy we have covers all the vehicles we drive (didn't need to list them individually) and also covers the trailer and vehicle on it

Agreed, no age limit on the vehicle with personal cover, RAC have been out to both my Escort and my Alfa and neither the call recipient in their call centre nor the mechanic attending batted an eyelid.

I had the AA for a few years now and they've been great.

There is no age limit with Personal cover.

Fixed my 2.8 at the side of the road 3 times. Once when the fuel pipe split, another time when the duraspark module went faulty, and one time when the water pump gasket went.

Also recovered me when the head gasket went on the 2.8 and when the head gasket blew on my Lancia Beta.

I had a strange one with the rac once as i asked them to send a flat bed that will take low cars the lad on the phone then asked me if i had modified my car as they will not recover if the car is lowered and i had to reassure him it was as they were normally. was 280 miles from home so didnt want to push it

thats it then r a c it is

Carefull - I had a really long chat with them about this. I have personal cover too BUT they only cover you in cars UP TO 10 years old.

However, as I have been with them for lots of years, before this rule was introduced, they let me off and will help me in any car, any age.

It depends on WHEN you signed up with them.

So in that respect, I'm stuck with RAC for life now

That doesn't match my experience, I've called them out many times and been recovered at least twice (sodding italian cars!) with no problems or complaints as a personal member with older cars.

Yep, I had to make a lot of calls to have this clarified to me. Not many people there seem to know the rules 100%, or even 50%.

But I have heard horror stories (which is why I kept ringing them) that some mechanics DID know the rules and would shrug and drive off if you had an old car.

I guess you take your chances...

we used greenflag when we crashed on a road rally, just rang him and said we think it may be a broken driveshaft.. (well it did have a broken drive shaft but also it did have no rear end left to the car  ) just gave him some bear tokens he said he wasn't bothered

Also been recovered in the escort after a broken driveshaft with greenflag again.

Greenflag are good cos they ring local recovery companys to come pick you up.

I've just renewed my AA personal policy today, double checked there is no vehicle age limit or modification limit on a personal policy.

Yup ditto, you all had me reaching for the small print before i renewed. Nothing about it at all for the AA within the UK that I can find.
