I've currently got a very small (size of a matchbox) portable tracker system.

It's possible to hard wire a charge socket to keep it topped up or you can just charge it when you need to via the mains, which i believe could make a good system for our type of cars. ?

Good points are:

It's a pay as you go sms type system which means you have no subscritions to pay.

The cost of the unit is a lot cheaper then normal trackers @ £196 all in to include a hard wire car charger.

You can set up "geo fencing" this means if the vehicle or person goes outside a set area you get a text message and / or a email.

Below is a pic of the control console you operate and track from via explorer and silverlite installed on any Pc connected to the web, you can also use a pda type phone.

This can also be used on pets kids or the elderly, a full charge can last upto 30 days on "standby" which wakes up if disturbed !!!

I need to purchase 10 units for my 1st order so as said testing the water any comments or questions welcome

I'm not making huge profits just trying to cover cost's etc.

I'll take a pic of the unit but it's just a small white box about the size of a modern car key remote :lol:

Cheers, been testing it over the weekend and it seems to be as good as most of the expensive fitted ones i use.

Here's some pics showing how small it is next to a Vauxhall car key.

Any idea how long these have been on the market .Often hear the phrase "you get what you pay for " ,do these seem good value in your opinion Savvi .

I've known the company for a couple of years, you can get a similar thing on ebay from China for less then these but this is a Uk company who have a good name in the business.

Yes you do get what you pay for, if i'm honest i'd tell you to buy a Cobra traq 1st for £400 fitted, plus £163.50 per year subscribtion but like everyone else i know the cost's will add up and people won't purchase them

I have had to buy the one i have, which will be going into my vehicle, i've done this because after looking for 18 months or so this seems to be good value for money and cheap to run compared to a normal fitted system, i've tried others which have been ok, but not up to this.

That's all i can say at the moment the company is called l8cator, you can go on their site and buy direct if you prefer, i'm trying to get some numbers and do a group buy, this should give you all a small discount on the normal price, plus by me being a dealer for them i can have a say and feedback others comments direct to the people in technical rather then some sales guy who you would be dealing with.

FAQS

Q. Now that I received the Loc8tor GPS, how do I use it?

A. Turn on the Loc8tor GPS and place it outside or close to a window (in direct line-of-sight with satellites) so that the device can pick up and register your position. Visit www.loc8tor.co.uk/activate to activate and register your device and create a secure and memorable password for future logins into the tracking panel. After registering the device, please visit www.loc8tor.co.uk/login to start tracking the device.

Q. How do I activate the device?

A. All you need to do is visit www.loc8tor.co.uk/activate and enter the device IMEI and SIM numbers in the appropriate fields. Enter your Title, Name and Surname, a memorable Password and the country where you are planning to use the device. You will also need to accept the General Terms and Conditions of Sale and Use before you can proceed with your activation. Your unique IMEI and SIM numbers are printed on the card found inside the box containing the Loc8tor GPS.

Q. Why do I need to register the device?

A. You will need to register your device on the website to protect your device positions. Your memorable password will secure access to this information.

Q - I have activated my GPS device from the activation page but I am seeing a black screen in the Tracking Panel. How can I fix this?

A - You need to install Microsoft Silverlight on your computer to view the panel properly. Follow the link to go to our Microsoft Silverlight installation guide.

Q. How long should I expect the Loc8tor GPS battery to last?

A. On default settings, you can use the Loc8tor GPS continuously for 6 to 10 days. The more frequent you receive locates or SMSs, the more battery life the device uses. You can extend the frequency of the Locate sends to extend battery life. Climate also affects the battery life. If the GPS signal is weak due to clouds or high-rise buildings, the Loc8tor GPS will keep searching for the best GPS signal, thus using power.

Q. Why do I need to top up?

A. The Loc8tor GPS will need to send the location of the device to the tracking panel. The SMS and Positions credits are clearly shown on your panel (bottom left hand side of panel). “Locates” uses GPRS technology (General Packet Radio Service) as opposed to the standard GSM used by other GPS trackers on the market. GPRS is far cheaper than GSM. You can also send commands to you Loc8tor GPS from your computer or mobile/cell phone. The device can also send you an SMS with its location. Please bear in mind that it can take up to 24 hours for the credits to be activated on your account.

Q. How best should I use the product?

A. This depends on the purpose of use. You can use the Loc8tor GPS to track your pet, your kids on a school trip or with their friends in the park, your teenage kid who just got their driving licence, on motorbikes, on employee vehicles, on a road trip/ holiday or even on your partner if you suspect they are cheating on you. The list is endless! All you need to do is make sure you have enough battery life on the device and enough SMS and Locate credits to last the whole journey.

Q. Why am I not getting full coverage outside?

A. Do you mean a poor GPS signal due to thick cloud cover or high-rise buildings or trees? Or are you referring to lack of GSM network? Just like any other GPS product on the market, the device needs a clear line-of-sight with satellites to operate. The GSM network is the same GSM network used for your mobile phone. You will note that some areas are not covered by network providers and reception might be affected. The GPS device does not work in Japan or North Korea but works anywhere else in the world.

Q. Can I use my mobile/cell phone to track the device?

A. Yes you can and the best bit is that you do not need the latest expensive phone to do so. Activate this feature then call your device, let the phone ring three times, then hang up. The device will send a text to your phone with the address where the Loc8tor GPS is at (the majority of the GPS trackers on the market today send you just Longitude and Latitude coordinates meaning you will have to manually locate the device using a computer).

Q. What do I get when I buy Locates?

A. The device will send you its position at preset intervals. Default settings are set to once every 5 minutes but you can change that to send as frequently as every 10 seconds.

Q. What do I get when I buy SMS?

A. SMS (Short Message Service) are sent only when you request the location from the tracking panel or from your mobile phone, when the Panic Button is activated or when the device exits or enters a preset safe zone. You can turn on or off the safe zone or Geo-fences from the tracking panel. You will also use SMS credits when you change settings on your device and when the battery is running low.

Q. How do I set up Alerts?

A. The Panic Button and the Geo-fence (Safety zone) features can be activated and set up from your tracking panel. To do so, you will need to enter the device contacts’ numbers or even email address. These are the recipients of the alert messages when the panic button is activated or the device breaches the geo-fence.

Q. How best should I use the product?

A. This very versatile tracker can be used on several applications from tracking your pet, your kid on a school outing or out in the park, tracking vehicles (employees’ or partners’) or motor bikes or asset protection. The list is endless! Activate the Panic and the Mobile tracking features to get the most out of the device.

Q. How can I track the Loc8tor GPS if I am abroad?

A. Just find a PC with an internet connection, go to www.loc8tor.co.uk/login and enter your IMEI number and your password. You will have the same access as if you are at home. Alternatively, call the device from your mobile to get the current location of the device.

Q. Is the device water resistant?

A. The device is certified to withstand the occasional splash. Make sure the USB connection cover is closed properly.

Update on this as reading through things have change over the last year

I moved away from loc8tor as i found the support poor and they had not upgraded to the newer version tracker which is more then twice as good !!!

So i'm now on another server and hopefully will soon be a dealer complete with my own labelled panel and website to purchase and obtain tracking credits www.savvitrak.co.uk I had not updated as this is still in early days but with recent events of more thefts taking place waiting may mean another car could go missing

Even if i cant have the units on my panel, i can still get you up & running on one of these within a few days once payment is received, by doing this i still need a min order.
