as to whats the point?, whats the pointing in putting a crappy rover v8 in a mk1 escort when a cossie yb would pee all over a rv8.

And i thought i was the only one who thought that

Good luck with it mate

Rover v8s were done for cheap power long before cossies were about, and for the price of putting a cossie engine in my ford I bought 2 cars that are both quicker than a cossie mk1 escort :ykt:

I can not be arsed to get involved with this to be honest but after seeing this build that needs crushing & all you are doing with showing off crap like this is putting at risk the future of well modified classics. That is just a cut & shut & should be cut & shut back up & taken down the tip. If you feel you have got to justify yourself then to me that tells me all i need to know, you are guilty of building a death trap. Nuff said.

Love the idea, but he would have been a lot better using an M3.

£2k buys one with near 300BHP these days after all!

Does, look pretty messy, but can't deny that projects like this appeal to me lots!

I replaced a standard bolt for a stainless one!

Stainless fasteners don't belong on cars - not strong enough to replace even 8.8 high tensile and most load bearing ones will be 10.9 - I replaced with BZP 12.9 grade

I didnt say I had replaced every bolt on my car with stainless, I was just using it as an example as to the extent of what my insurance company know about my car!

Im not sure I agree with your statement of "Stainless bolts don't belong on cars" as the is nothing load bearing about holding a rocker cover on or bolting your coil to the inner wing!!! Dont worry, I have ARP bolts holding my conrods together :wink:

Did you sign up to this forum just to defend your project??? 13 posts and all on this thread!

If you are happy to drive the car you are cut and shutting then why are you worried about what some other people on some other forum think of it? If you have to justify to other people that what you are doing is safe then I think you need to have a re-think!!!

I think that is unfair, what is he supposed to do ideally? Say nothing?

Its a forum after all. he can justify and make counter-points about his own project to his hearts content as everyone else here can and has. (including you)

Its pretty apparent its a Marmite car, lets leave it as that.

I googled, i didn't find anything.

I only spent 10 seconds looking though

Haha  I'm not bothered enough to go looking for what other people think about what other people think about another persons project.

To be honest I clicked the link and saw on page one what looked like a patch work quilt with lots of little bits of scrap metal welded together, and the new metal was rusty to start with and I just thought this is just not my idea of a good project !! I like the idea but after having driven a few BMW's I couldn't think of a worst car to use, lol !!

You say your going to re-do this that and the other but what is it they say about showing children and fools unfinished work ?? Well, I'm sure the finished arical will look good and it might even work ok too but if I purchased that car in years to come and then stumbled across those pictures I'd probably sell it quick !!

A friend of mine has Series One Escort that he put a 5ierra 4X4 Cosworth floor, engine and running gear in. I saw the whole process, it looks like it was done at the factory and at no point looked unsafe, it did not look like the Mk1 Escort in that thread at any stage. He is now building another. I wish I had photo's to show what it looks like, you cannot be anything other than impressed by the quailty of the fabrication and welding.

One picture says it all.

You are supposed to weld metal to metal, not metal to metal through the paint unless it the weld through zinc primer.

It looks like it was just an off cut lying bout that was used in the above pic.

There is a 4 letter word call PREP!!!!

To be fair surely that isn't going to stay like that?

I got the impression it was simply a temporary tab to help line the body up?

don't bother mate, just let them to it. I'm sure he thinks that is permanant, I'm sure he thinks that those inner wheel tubs are staying, I bet he even thinks there is going to be a gert big hole between the seats and the fire wall, just let him think that, I no longer give a shit what narrow minded people think on this site.....makes good reading though.

besides, is that the worst picture you could find? a couple litte crappy tabs to hold the body at the right height?

How about this little doosey?

I take it from your lack of expression on this major joint that you think its acceptable? As I said in the above post, you probably even think this is pernanant.

as to using brand new 1.6mm steel, thats got a bit of surface rust on it where it was left outside for 6 days whil I was away on holiday, how is this an issue? the cars gonna be acid dipped when Im finnished, so the metal will be as new...if there was a new oldstock wing with a bit of surface rust on it, would you call that scrap to?

you obviously do care what "narrow minded people think on this site" or you wouldn't keep replying!!! The chassis is probably twisted now after cutting off the roof without bracing the chassis first! But judging by the photos, you obviously know what you are doing!!!

good attitude mate, if they dont like they dont have to drive it. at least you have the balls to have a go, most people pay other people lots of money to do thier work, let them slate it cause they havent got the balls to try themselves. im not saying i like it as it doesnt make sense to me. its nothing new and will be done again no doubt. good luck with it and i hope when its finished you get it safe and legal.

If I paid someone to do the work I wouldn't expect it to look like that !!
