popeye Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 did we win.....i've not heard any thing....
andygfc Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 Corruption won, I think Why Qatar? Something to do with Sepp Blatter wanting to stay FIFA president!! I no longer go to football matches (well very rarely) as it's all about money, the fans do not matter. Russia deserve a go, but only 2 votes for England?!!!
Trevmk3 Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 money talks and Russia and Qatar have a few pennies floating around as has been shown with F1 going to Qatar and will be going to Russia in the next year or so. its a shame really as i really wanted to see Forest struggle to build and fill the new stadium if we got the world cup
PlopPlop Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 I tell ya what, it gave everyone Qatar shock
marky4 Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 abit of a shock that but looks like money talks even if its dirty money
livewire7116 Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 They deserved to host it, they have never done it before and will give thier economy a big boost and encourage people to visit the eastern block, theres a lot more culture there than this country!. South afrida had thier turn so russia was obvious choice
Admin Vista Posted December 2, 2010 Admin Report Posted December 2, 2010 They deserved to host it, they have never done it before and will give thier economy a big boost and encourage people to visit the eastern block, theres a lot more culture there than this country!. South afrida had thier turn so russia was obvious choice It's not about culture or who deserves it though it's about who has the best infrastructure and plan for laying on the world cup and my understanding was the the British bid was amongst the best on offer. If you compare Russia and the UK, not only do we have far more stadiums of suitable quality and size for world cup matches, they're also far closer to each other. Russia is a vast country with limited good transport networks outside and between the major cities so the numbers of people (both Russian and international) who are prepared to travel to watch each match spread across such a vast nation will be far less than there would have been here. Oh and since when was Russia part of Europe anyway?

Andrade Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Russia ...apparently yes it is. my old girlfriend was russian and she used to say she's eastern european. i still called her asian though

Europe got bugger all to do with the "WORLD CUP" south africa had no infra structure either but they built it, why do the british think they deserve it more than russia? its a game of football for fooks sake
Admin Vista Posted December 3, 2010 Admin Report Posted December 3, 2010 Europe has everything to do with the world cup. The voting system goes in global regions so not every country in the world can bid to host each world cup. There are six FIFA continental zones: Africa, Asia, North and Central America and Caribbean, South America, Oceania and Europe. Any country is only eligible to bid for the world cup when it is the turn of the region it is located in. I believe our next turn to even bid won't be for another 20 years (2030) My point is that Russia (in my opinion) is not really part of Europe as the majority of its land mass is in fact in Asia...................do they get to bid for the world cup in the Asian section too? I guess it depends on what you define as Europe, For instance (and believe it or not these are all different things ) is it the EU? Russia is not a member. Is it the European Council? Russia is not a member. Is it the Council of the European Union? Russia is not a member. Is it the Council of Europe? Russia became a member in 1996. Or is it simply the Geographical area? In which case technically I agree, Russia qualifies, but on that basis they'd qualify to bid in the Asian region too.
livewire7116 Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 AT END OF THE DAY ITS A GAME OF FOOTBALL, STOP ALL WHINGING ABOUT IT AND GET OVER IT, SO WHAT WE DIDNT GET TO HOST IT, WE GOT THE OLYMPICS IN 2 YEARS WHAT MORE DO WE BLOODY WANT
Admin Vista Posted December 3, 2010 Admin Report Posted December 3, 2010 Who's whinging about it? I'm not remotely interested in football and wouldn't have watched any matches who ever hosted it. I am interested however in the fact the the British bid was widely thought to be the best and then lo and behold, a few weeks and days after damaging and poorly timed revelations by a national broadsheet newspaper and Panorama, we only get 2 votes. One of which would have been the British vote anyway. It's not about football for me at all , it's about the revenue and work that could have been generated and won by British industry, none of which will now happen. Possibly because the voting panel was soured against us by poorly timed expose's from a few publicity hungry journalists.

Retromotorsport Posted December 5, 2010 Report Posted December 5, 2010 I'm glad we didnt get it ... look at the track record of the Olympics, only one country since the WW2 has turned a profit on the Olympics, and thats Australia ... It almost bankrupted Greece, and they are still struggling now. We would be foolish to try and run the both so close together
