I often read in the press that there are certain events that occurred and you "remember exactly where you were" when you heard, such as JFK's assassination (no! even I was rather young then!)

It has got me thinking if there are momentous (or otherwise) events that I heard about and I can still remember where I was when I heard about them.

For me there are not many

Space Shuttle Challenger blowing up on launch (working on my Anglia on the drive)

Princess Di's sad demise (Home, I woke up early for work)

9/11 (at work, listened to the developments on the radio)

And that's about it, over 50 years old I am, and only three events of any memorable significance that I can still remeber where I was, althopugh more may appear through the mists of my memory!

Which events do you remember, and where were you when you heard?

I remember the first space shuttle flight (Columbia) on April 12th 1981, sat glued to a very old fashioned TV at my Grans in Cheltenham

9/11 I was also at work, work stopped immediately it was announced on the radio and we all spent the rest of the day watching the reports on TV, completely gob smacked.

Princess Di's death I remember because the TV came on on a timer..............and interrupted my new Girl friend giving me the best BJ I'd ever had in my life  . She spent the rest of the morning glued to the TV and I was gutted................though not for the same reasons she was.

I also remember where I was when the first Gulf war kicked off. In a night club in Exeter with a couple of mates. We had a solemn drink to the mutual friends we had on ships out there

Princess Di dying - Fell asleep on the sofa, half woke up and saw the news, was pretty much awake after that

9/11 - had just finished unloading from an exhibition, was going home in the van and it came on the radio. I honestly thought Bush was gonna Nuke Bin Laden.

7/11 - at a customer's warehouse, with vans out on the streets affected, the phone were down and I didn't know if anybody working for us had been blown up!

Kurt Cobain was the first big one for me, i remember the annoucement on MTV news after 8 days missing, the pic of his legs with his convese 1 stars on! He was my hero

9/11 I was taping and jointing at the time in a Reuters building in the middle of the city (of London). Half of us were gathered around the radio, the rest were looking out of the windows just incase!!
