grifterkid Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 I believe I put this topic up before but I thought I'd give it another go as I would like to see what you good folks think of this Ford that never was... It was thought up, primarily, by Roger Clark so it was most certainly intended to be a bit of a tool on the track and on the street... The engine options were either going to be the Essex 3-litre unit or the delicate 16v BDA unit... I really do not know what killed it off fully (unreliability did not help matters!) but you can be sure that this car would've been a complete corker... So what do you think of this motor, sure fire winner or probably best it never was...?!?!?!
NeilT Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 stunning bit of kit and a shaim it wanst put in to production!! up there with the rs 1700T the BDA capri's and other such forgotten fords!!!
gjh Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 It looks gorgeous, would have been a really cool car if it made production.
grifterkid Posted December 27, 2010 Author Report Posted December 27, 2010 Here is a short film of the GT 70 prototype being put through its paces by Clark himself...
willsy Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 looked great but apparently handled like an American limo
stumax Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 might be wrong but didnt i read somewhere that graeme robson s son worked on gearbox for the gt 70 ?
Mr2Caps Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 I always thought that that was quite a pretty car, surprises me that no one has thought of building a replica, like they have with the GT40, perhaps with a Zetec or Duratec, maybe turbo'd? With a bit of development I would have thought it could be competitive with the likes of the darrian/davrian in rallies etc, maybe rallycross or a good clubman racer....
Andrade Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 looks like a cross between a lotus elan on the front and mustang on the back
john_3.0s Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 you can tell its a ford by the loose pop up light thats flapping about never get that on an mx5......runs for cover
herb capri Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 true i bet it didnt even cause embarrasment! unlike a mx5! mike

I think it is crazy a replica has never been attempted... Especially when 1 or 2 prototypes are still out there ready for measuring up...
bortaf Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 what about the cirrus ? not really ugly and had some potential ? change the dam ugly front end for some twin rounds and change the bonnet line? it lives near me nowdays
Dazzler 666 Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Is it just me or does this remind anyone else of a Ferrari Daytona?! Still, can't be a bad thing in anyone's book! lol. Lovely and as stated, damn shame they never put into production.
Madify Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 Am I the only person here that thinks thats just pug ugly? If it were a kit car, i'd put it in the same catagory as this
Admin Vista Posted January 1, 2011 Admin Report Posted January 1, 2011 Am I the only person here that thinks thats just pug ugly? If it were a kit car, i'd put it in the same catagory as this Which car are you talking about? Neither are anywhere close to that monstrosity you posted up. If you mean the GT70, I think you need your eyes tested!
Mr2Caps Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 The GT70 was designed for a purpose, whereas the example you quote looks like it was clearly designed by a blind man, granted the GT70 hasn't got the best rear 3/4 view in the world, but I don't think that anyone would call the RS200 beautiful.....at the end of the day beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

5.0S-teve Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 Dont know if anyone has seen it before, but heres a link to a local-ish ford dealers website whom actually own one of the prototypes ( it lives in the showroom and passes an MOT every year http://www.lawtonsoftadcaster.co.uk/abo ... story.aspx
