simonjames90 Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 Hi fortunatly in a few months i will be running into some money and i cant wait. I used to have a capri and now i really want another one. Basically i am looking for a capri that produces 200-250BHP and i am so confused to which direction to take.... buy a 2.8 get it rebuilt and nicely tuned up, buy a 2.0 and do the same or get an engine conversion with somethin a little newer like a black top ford engine 170bhp and tune that up??? I havent got a clue where to go or what to do but i need the end product to be a 200-250bhp Carpri please help me!! Thanks for any help guys!!
Trevmk3 Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 Hi welcome to the site. im sure someone will be able to point you in the correct direction on this, what kind of budget do you think you would have?
caprinerd Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 welcome mate tbh id steer clear of the 2.8 as they are not the most tunable there are some people that will argue the fact that they are, if you have a very deep pocket to have the heads reworked to get shot of the power draining siamese port then you are well on your way, the essex lump is very easy to work with and parts and machining aint bank breaking if you want the six pot , if you want a good 4 pot then go pinto they are strong and easy to work as well, and remember the cossy was based on the pinto but to get a true 200bhp from a pinto your going to be looking at £2000 plus
Joe-ashtonmobile Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 just to say a 200hp pinto is quite abit more then £2000 infact over double that
banarama Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 just to say a 200hp pinto is quite abit more then £2000 infact over double that ID SAY 5K FOR SURE
Col-ashtonmobile Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 just to say a 200hp pinto is quite abit more then £2000 infact over double that ID SAY 5K FOR SURE absolutely right there's not a 2k 200bhp pinto , v8 it i,d say capri,s were made for them , and the sound is orgasmic lol:ykt:
AdeV Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 Yep, buy any Capri & slap a V8 in there, it's the only way to go The BMW M5 engine can be made to fit, that'll give you 400bhp before you do anything else...
RS2kSX Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 Wasn't there a company about that did the stroker kits for the 2.8? remember hearing about them doing a 4.? could be wrong..
mk1super Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 V8 or cosworth cant go wrong....Or out side the box go jap an fit a supra lump
deltamal Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 Ric Wood does some cleaver things with the2.8's and Essex engines, depending on your budget, I fitted a 2.4 YB nasp Cossie in the Cortina 265 brake, over 300 with Nos, but that's 8k....
simonjames90 Posted March 5, 2011 Author Report Posted March 5, 2011 absolutly spot on guys! Thanks for all advice given i now have some very interesting idea's in my head! LONG LIVE THE CAPRI!!! Once again thankyou.I will post some kind of update to let you know which direction i have taken incase anyone is interested. Cheers, Simon.
simonjames90 Posted March 5, 2011 Author Report Posted March 5, 2011 oh yeah TrevMk3 i am looking to have 5 maybe 6 grand to spend in total for car and extra's. What would you advise to do as in which car to buy initially and what direction to follow?
simonjames90 Posted March 6, 2011 Author Report Posted March 6, 2011 actually i just thought! Im looking for around a 6.5-7 sec 0-60 time and apparantly the 2.8i is 160bhp as standard and does 0-60 in 7.8secs AHHHHHHHHH what to do!! I know this is just too greedy but i need at least 30mpg from this future beast is this all possible? AHHHHH my head just wants to explode! can someone just give me a brief breakdown of a direction that i should follow eg. EXAMPLE 1.Buy 2.0 capri shell - £1500 2.Buy YB 2.0 16v cossie engine - 3.Buy....sky hooks? 4.Pay for fitting - £1000? Total = etc. or Example2 1.Buy 2.8i - £3000 2.Tune up to fookery stage 2 tuning by ______________- £2000 3. Enjoy sex on wheels Total - £5000 AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH --------
JP. Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 ................. and apparantly the 2.8i is 160bhp as standard and ......... Here is where you go wrong at first.............. apparantly the 2.8i is 160bhp as standard but only in the broshure Its about 150 in real but with way less torque then an Essex lumb. 28's are not well designed to handle more than 200 "real" bhp too. Rule number one: Horsepower sells cars, torque wins races. Cosworth BOA or BOB (2.9 24v)is all about horsepower....but no torque. So next logic option is V8 route.
deltamal Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 Or a 2.9 Cologne, injected,no fibre gear driving the valves round, 6 port exhaust, similar torque to the Essex, less weight.... choices we have all wrestled with!
simonjames90 Posted March 6, 2011 Author Report Posted March 6, 2011 this is so crazy i cant believe this is so diffucult to make a descision on what to do! Imagine my state before ive had all this wounderful feedback from all you guys!! Im kinda asking for alot here i have decided and im starting to think a 200BHP Capri with at least 30MPG is not possible especially as i want to be sneaky and get around insurance but they will know straight away if there is some huge V8 stuck in it! Does anybody know the limits of the 2.0 pinto engine? what would you have to do to get it to 200bhp and rough costs of wacking a turbo on it? ahhhhhhhhhhhh once again thanks for all this help! you have been most kind
caprinerd Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 just to say a 200hp pinto is quite abit more then £2000 infact over double that ID SAY 5K FOR SURE oo er typo !!!

Don't even think about it. Best case scenario is they catch you out and you have problems getting future cover, worst case scenario is you have an accident and they laugh at you when you ask them to pay out. A naturally aspirated 2.0 pinto can get you 200bhp but it won't be fun to use on the road. Bore and stroke it to 2.2 litres and 200bhp becomes more accessible (and road friendly) but at a price. Budget on at least £5k (as said earlier) for a high spec pinto. By a good engine builder, the pinto can be taken up to around 230bhp but that is really big money and would not be road friendly at all.
deltamal Posted March 6, 2011 Report Posted March 6, 2011 Re 200 bhp Pinto, my nasp YB is 2.4, fast road cam and DTA management, really good to drive on the road 30 mpg on a run and still doing 13 second quarters!
simonjames90 Posted March 7, 2011 Author Report Posted March 7, 2011 Deltma beatiful set up i am jelous! An Mr. Administratorrrrr from cornwall thanks for that advice. I think i need to sort my life out and move to austrailia and take my 5Grand to backpack and explore forest's for a rusty old Capri and restore her back to health...i hear capri's were pretty big out there and the ford falcon mad max car which i belive was based on the Capri. Thanks for all advice given, i have learnt about my life and how i need to exchange my wife for a capri and how hard that journey will be but how worth it it is Imagine a Capri with an RS500 engine in it with a full sierra 4x4 set up on it...ooooooooooooooooooo
