i think the south london look is any old skool car slammed on 7/13" rims on 175/50/13s

he says the original south london look is old skool sitting on 185/60/13

To me the south london look is all about clean lines no arches & a slammed stance :ykt: could not give a monkeys about the tyre size  although most people and the mags seem to think it is the elastic bands that complete the look

when i had my Mk1's in the mid / late 80's the rules were always slammed on 6" rims with 185's and quite rarley on 7" rims with 175's i would say the look started off with 185's but got taken over with the popularity of 175's

Personally i love the look of a mk1 with 7" rims on elastic bands :ykt:

I'm probably to young to know how it started but now days I'd say 175 50's are what I know as south london and they look way better than the baloon size 185 60 which are better suited to and old mans MGB

On Escorts I prefer 185/60s as i think 175/50s look too small on the front because the arch doesnt hug the wheel as well as it does on the back.

That's very diplomatic

I'm firmly in the 185/60 club. Not because I know anything about the South London look (then or now) but because I think 50's look daft as a box of frogs. Their scale is all out of proportion with the wheel and unless the car has been lowered so much it's scraping its arse on the ground the arch gaps are all wrong.................and that's before I get started on the ridiculous gearing implications.

In fact every time I see on 50's I think "there goes another follower of fashion, Baaaaaaaaa"

When Ford launched the XR2 the said it came with "Ultra low profie 60 series tyres"

If 60's are 'ultra low' what would they think about 175 50's, I'm not sure when 50 series tyres came available, any one know?
