gjh Posted June 15, 2011 Report Posted June 15, 2011 How would you describe the old skool ford comunitiy? I recently got into a bit of an argument on another forum when one of the members asked for suggestions on a new car, wich he hinted was to be rear wheel drive, so me being me, I suggested a mk2 escort (as you do), only to get a load of replies about ho they were boring and "scene taxed"(?) to death and boring and unoriginal!I simply told them the reason why there are similar mods is cause they work, (lowering blocks, minilights etc). And if it ain't broke, don't fix it. So what are you opinions? Are we a part of a scene? Or are we just people who enjoy old ford and like to modifiy them in a tried and proven method? Oh and most of the people on there drive Vw's, scene if there ever was one, sorry if I'm ranting a little, but I know what scene (and I hate that word) I'd rather be in. What you opinion folks?
Admin Vista Posted June 15, 2011 Admin Report Posted June 15, 2011 What you opinion folks? Roast my testicles slowly on a spit over an open hearth fire if I'm ever seen in a VW Beetle. Does that make my opinion clear? Anyway the VW lot are rich to talk about "scene tax" have you checked the price of a good camper lately?
tazrocks88 Posted June 15, 2011 Report Posted June 15, 2011 i love the classic ford scene and dont care what anyone says its the best and most welcoming i have come across! on osf they dont frown upon something different as much as some scene's and they also dont frown upon a fake rs etc as much as others do the guys are friendly and the following is great i luv it

gjh Posted June 15, 2011 Author Report Posted June 15, 2011 They were the sort of replies I was hoping for, agree with you, if you need to be in a scene (which you do)old fords are king
over_head_cam Posted June 15, 2011 Report Posted June 15, 2011 I like what I like. What others think is unimportant. It's not like it's the latest craze or a 'scene' if you want to call it that If anyone wants to give me grief over what I love then they can fook off
rsdaz Posted June 15, 2011 Report Posted June 15, 2011 I don't think ther is many scenes as good as ours but I personaly like VW's. I like the look of modded VW's and the quality of there cars can be awsome, but most (not all) are built for show and aren't very good at anything else other than looking pretty. where as old Fords can look good and are just so much more fun to drive (you can't go sideways in a golf!) We may do similar things to our cars but it looks good so why change (although I think it would be good to take some influences from other scenes which could work on our cars) All in all I think being in the Ford world is a very freindly and fun place to be.
lotusless Posted June 15, 2011 Report Posted June 15, 2011 + the best thing is jesus drives an osf its true i saw him once in a capri.............. or was that a dream? well he would drive a ford not a bloody vw.
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted June 15, 2011 Report Posted June 15, 2011 I think there is a bit of a 'scene tax' with old skool fords. It's all about supply and demand. And ebay. I think that's the real reason why prices have gone up over the last few years. I've just bought a nice late 80s RWD car. I'm picking it up Sunday. It's not a Ford. It's not a VW. And I've not paid any scene tax. It's a BMW E30. I have to say though, on the E30 forum I go on, most people prefer a totally original (or restored to original) car. I'm planning on putting the M52 engine in from a E36 328i and turn it into a sleeper
bronze4door Posted June 15, 2011 Report Posted June 15, 2011 it all depends on what old ford club your part of
deltamal Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 You like what you like I guess, I like old Fords, and have been modding and tweaking them since the 60's, haven't finished yet! am now having the next engine/gearbox combo being sorted! and Old Skool Ford is the best community to be part of!
gjh Posted June 16, 2011 Author Report Posted June 16, 2011 Cheers for the replies folks, I'm also in a believer in liking what you want and not what some person on a forum says, at the end of the day its only down to what the owner thinks of their own car, not anyone else.
Kasper Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 Ha ha, scene is a word used by people to excuse the fact that they are doing exactly the same to their cars as friends/mags/internet and not thinking up their own ideas!
LGreen Posted June 17, 2011 Report Posted June 17, 2011 My opinion, for what its worth, is that while i love my old fords (mainly MK1 Escorts) and will never sell mine i can appreciate what any body does to their cars. I'm not about hating on VW as its not ford or any other make. I just like to se the hard work they have put into their own cars and get inspiration and ideas for my latest project. while i think some of the crazes out there (such as BOZO is it where they have laods of large fibreglass wings on vans) looks rediculous i try not slate them. If they want to throw loads of money at their vehicle its their choice. I think there are plenty of ways to build an old ford as there are ways to build Vdubs and looking at ford mags over the years theres been plenty done to them. Sounds cheesy i know but i dont see why all the different scenes cant get along more.
PlopPlop Posted June 17, 2011 Report Posted June 17, 2011 with the simple fact I have a lot of friends especially on here that are very good people and they drive all sorts of cars, I myself love anything with wheels as my driveway will show, and it doesn't take a genius to work out whatever scene your'e in you will find good and bad folk that spoil the hobby, I can't believe people are judging people on what cars they drive, in fact some of the nicest people I know have got some really bad taste in cars and I've met some right s with cool cars, judging a book by its cover springs to mind.
