I have owned this Cortina for 13+ years, and learnt to drive in it.

The restoration and modifications to it were carried out by Steve Taylor in Essex, who knows his stuff on Cortinas, 24v Cosworths, and Fords, generally.

It was originally a 1300 L model. The old crossflow is likely to end up in my cousin's 1950s Ford Pop / Prefect (the 4 door one), to make it go a bit quicker than the sidevalve that's in there now...

Anyway, heres a few pics of the Corty.

And here's one of it in the Summer when I passed my driving test (in it).

It is now just about exactly the way I want it, but I will be getting Mr. Taylor to remove the power steering, and put a manual rack back in- steering is just too light for proper feedback, and I don't like anything unnecessary sapping engine power. It also needs a biggish soundsystem intall (6 inch fronts under dash, 6x9s behind the rear seat back, and an amp driven sub there too), which I can take care of, but don't want anything too visible...

Also, the battery needs to be relocated to the boot, and I may invest in some new number plates (although I like the old type, they are just difficult to get clean)

Spec includes:

2.9 24v Cosworth lump (BOA)

Hybrid MT75 rear wheel drive gearbox

Limited slip diff heavy duty rear axle

Mk2 Granada injection calipers

Capri injection discs

Lowered and uprated springs

3 door cossie alloys (black / 'diamond cut')

Genuine Ford RS front and rear spoilers (Mk5 Cortina)

Black beta cloth interior with Mk2 Rs2000 recaros, Cortina L 2 door matching rear seats

Black 2 door door cards, from Germany, where they had a lot more 2 doors (Taunuses).

Kenlowe fan, recored mk4 Cortina 2.3 radiator with closer spaced tubes for better cooling capacity. I have badged it as a 2.9S, copying how I saw Jim (littlenewt) did on his red 2.9 GLS 2 door mk5, using the "2" from a "2.0" and an upside down "6" from a "1.6" badge.

It is often my daily driver at the moment, and puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. I don't often drive it fast, but it is nice to have 200+ bhp to play with... I would like to take it to the Nurburgring one day, but think I need some proffessional race driver training first... Don't wanna stack it.

Cheers for the nice comments there. Yep, the mk4 2 doors are pretty rare the

se days- supposedly only around 10 left in the country. Lots more around in Europe, though, where they made 2 doors in all specs and engine sizes right up to the 2.3S and ghia.

The colour ia Ford Performance Blue- the colour of the new focus / mondeo ST/RS. (And a slightly different shade to 'Imperial Blue'.)
