BaileyMex Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 Hi all, Just a quick one, Exhaust manifold heat wrap, Pros? Cons? And how many meters would you think you would need for a Xflo manifold? 5 meters?
Billy_smith Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 meant to keep engine bay tenperature down, but i have heard that it can make manifolds crack as the temperature cant escape making them hotter. so i dont no what to make of it really
zetecmk2 Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 don't fook about......get that stainless mass style you want!!!
fieldy1972 Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 It is bloody itchy chuck it in a bucket of water before wrapping
BaileyMex Posted September 16, 2011 Author Report Posted September 16, 2011 OK thanks peeps Oh and Glen
Posse Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 good if you don't mind wrapping it back on all the time like beer zone said get a stainless one
Toby Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 Not seen any HP through it being on mine, although being pre-crossflow it's probably a more of benefit in traffic than it would be on yours. Can look better than a rusty old manifold. I have also heard they get the steel too hot and fall appart quicker as suggested above.
kevmk2 Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 Ron @ Ht racing, said its only really worth doing on a fwd car. Doesnt really do anything on a rwd car. I have my downpipe wrapped, doesnt make that much differance, still gets bloody hot I used stainless lock wire on mine with the locking pliers that Burtons do. Holds it all in place nicely.
Admin Vista Posted September 17, 2011 Admin Report Posted September 17, 2011 With what you've spent getting your car looking right Colin, I'd get a proper job done and get the manifold coated by the likes of camcoat or zircotec. Thermal barrier and corrosion proofed in one hit. http://www.camcoat.com/main/thermal-barriers-2/ http://www.zircotec.com/page/classic_cars/14
