Absolutely right Puddy - You're better if you can buy off like minded mates, especially if their cars are keepers. It annoys me when I get rid of stuff to people, that I've kept for this very reason, and they then flog the shooting match for a hefty profit with my bits on!

That said - if you want some very short half hafts or a gear box and diff that won't wear your tyres out you know where to come!:thumbsup:

I am fairly new to the oldskoolford scene and have witnessed some rip offs already. However if you use your noddle and research properly and talk to people you can get parts reasonable.I have used the guys at Escort tec and they are great guys running a business but still giving sound advice for free and selling good priced parts.(Love the Tran X diff I picked up today whoopeee!!) There are rip offs on ebay and I see some at the show at Donington the other week.I have found items cheaper new than secondf hand ones at times as well so research does pay off!!

that twinky has been for sale for a very long time no wonder really with a price tag like that you could buy a very very sorted escort with history for that

you could buy a real one for less

Yep, of course these old fords, Escorts in particular have risen in price.

Try getting a half decent escort shell for under 1800 quid. It wont happen. Thats just a bare shell too.

Its simply supply and demand.

We can moan about the prices of parts until we are blue in the face but things are only worth what people are willing to pay.

Who would pay £150.00 for a knackered gearbox? No-one, he'll sit on that ad for ever. Simple.

I have seen people get ridiculous amounts of money for thier cars recently and so have i seen some cars change hands for next to nothing.

Ebay has no doubt hiked the prices up in recent years but I have also seen cars simply not sell as the owners are asking too much.

years ago i brought a 1100 mk1 2dr for 400 quid as a run around and a rolling shell of a mk1 1300 xl 2dr for 50.use to get mk4/5 cortinas for 50 with short t&t, take all the good bits off and give the rest to the banger boys the one i regret was a manual 2.3 ghia mk5 that had every option one owner s/h mega low miles brought for 150 nicker and i sold it to a so called mate for 500, or the 1500 gt that i found in a barn....the farmer gave me it, new tyres fresh fuel cleaned all the chicken sh!t off real nice car sold it after 3 years for the sum of 550.the cheepest car i got was a black 2.8i capri with 15" brookland wheels for the price of a pint....if i had kept just afew of the fords that passed through my hands ild be a very rich man......who i feel sorry for is the next generation of ford nuts, these cars are going tobe so rare and somuch money they will never hear a old ford on twin 40s giving it large....for example i know of a mk1 cortina one owner and steve who has just turned 18 inherited it when his grandad passed, stored in a garage will never get driven because steve is scared of how much it would cost to repair it.

It's a Cortina house. Well, it will be when it's finished!

Have you sorted your gearbox Mr Puddy? And will it be at CF tearing up the strip?

I say strip, I mean diffs, shafts, and engine mounts. Ah the joy of the boot being on the other foot!
