Savvi Posted September 20, 2012 Report Posted September 20, 2012 After moving here 18mths ago and having problems with planning permission i've finally started to repair the old shed in the back garden to use as my workshop for my toys and the odd customer's car. So original plan was knock it down and start again but was told i was only allowed to repair the excisting building, so had a fabricator in this week to put a new steel frame inside the old timber one to support the building as it had started to break after heavily snow falls when we 1st moved in. Work is slow as we've had to jack the roof back into posistion then custom make each beam to suit !!!! 2 toys parked up before i started Don't look much but hasn't 1/2 took some planning and headache getting the measurements right !!!
5tox Posted September 20, 2012 Report Posted September 20, 2012 thats awesome, i want a workshop like that

theloudboy Posted September 21, 2012 Report Posted September 21, 2012 Now that is a shed and a half mate, wish i had something like that would have loads of cars.
Skimmer Posted September 21, 2012 Report Posted September 21, 2012 is it Asbestos cladded ???? looks abit Asbestossy
Savvi Posted September 21, 2012 Author Report Posted September 21, 2012 It's that cement board stuff ........... either way im not allowed to replace all of it but will be doing the front and side that is seen from the road for now as that was all they would allow in one go Inside is being insulated and boarded out.
Skimmer Posted September 22, 2012 Report Posted September 22, 2012 Thats good its not Asbestos and im sure that give it some time you can replace the other sections , if you insulate n board it you wont want to ever come out of it
Savvi Posted September 22, 2012 Author Report Posted September 22, 2012 That's the general idea ............. Missus has lined me a bed to go on the Mez floor i'm putting in at the back and has been telling everyone that's my new house When i fed a new power supply in i acidentiallly put Tv cable, phoneline & ethernet cables for internet into the trench so i should be ok On the look out for a cheap heating solution now .......... considering a waste oil heater if i can get one, im told the newer ones are quite good these days ? By Monday we should have all the support frame done so we can make a start on the free standing Mez floor ............. then we can start insulating and boarding it out ............ hoping to be in & sorted out before winter sets in.
Savvi Posted November 30, 2012 Author Report Posted November 30, 2012 A bit of an update, after selling my blue Mk1 van and a bit of saving up i managed to get quite a bit more done So we finished the steels, fitted a Mez floor then removed all the old trusses and fitted some new perlins to open up the roof space, fitted a new roller door (Huxley recommended a company called Lakeside Security, great price and excellent job) then i just spent last week building a shed on the back and opening it all up found the back wall rotten so we built a new stud wall and re clad it. I've also found a waste oil heater and fired it up for the 1st time today, so it's getting a proper home from home now !!!
welshmike Posted November 30, 2012 Report Posted November 30, 2012 Thats gonna be an awesome workshop mate Very jealous
Savvi Posted November 30, 2012 Author Report Posted November 30, 2012 Thanks, just got fed up with landlords putting the rent up every time i improved their building, so moved somewhere i can work from home and although i have inital outlay i'll be saving the rent each month and a good investment for the future.
banarama Posted November 30, 2012 Report Posted November 30, 2012 so can i bring my car up for you to look after
Savvi Posted November 30, 2012 Author Report Posted November 30, 2012 As long as it's taxed and tested so i can keep it running nicely
Admin Vista Posted December 2, 2012 Admin Report Posted December 2, 2012 Shed looks bigger than my house! Most envious! Wish I had a "shed" like that!
Savvi Posted December 2, 2012 Author Report Posted December 2, 2012 Guess i should start calling it my workshop soon, but it was a chicken shed for a long time !!!! I've dug out the floor & put a concrete base down for fitting a recessed scissor lift, then the whole floor is being screeded next weekend, then once i've saved up again....... insulated boarded out, rewired, newer alarm and Cctv. I need to make it look professional as i use it for my bussiness now, although i still do mostly mobile some of my work requires workshop facilities.
Savvi Posted December 20, 2012 Author Report Posted December 20, 2012 Been busy again in the last couple of weeks, new floor laid, heater fitted and new scissor lift fitted flush into the floor, all done just in time to get my new toy in to have a play with. My mate Simion untying the strap after lowering ramp into place
