Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted February 2, 2007 Report Posted February 2, 2007 you cant fit an engine you cant afford a hoist you cant do it on the drieway its not sufficient the garage roof is too low its too ezpensive to do you cant fit a fan its a pointless idea what if it goes wrong you cant afford to do that Ok, one at a time Yes you can fit an engine, it goes back together in reverse to how you take the old one out. You need to do that first so its all good practise . You dont need a hoist, just hire one or get some mates round . The drive is more than adequate, its an escort, not a space shuttle. alternatively use the road outside the driveway. The garage roof might be too low, the sky is not. All your ancillaries- clutch, alternator, gearbox even engine mounts will work with the bigger engine so the only outlay is the engine. There car more than likely has an electric fan. Itll allow your engine to warm up faster than the engine driven one. so itll save you fuel as the auto choke will be off faster . If it goes wrong then ask on here and someone will tell you how to sort it. Do it while theyre on holiday or summat and then itll be too late for them to stop you by the time they get back . ^^^^ AMEN TO THAT MY BROTHER ^^^^ Antz, seriously, wait till they are away for a weekend, but make sure your all planned/clued up beforehand. Have a couple of mates on hand, you always need one for tea and handing spanners etc. Make sure there is a box of cold ones for after you have finished. I don't want to sound arrogant here mate, but it's a 70's Ford, it won't be rocket science. You will need no special tools apart from an engine hoist, and a decent tool kit. Show them you can do what you say, and also show them that when you have your mind set on something, you will see it through no matter what sort of problems may occur. You go for it mate, as long as your organised and have some idea, it will go nice and smoothly!! Best Of Luck Mate

Just remember the combined knowledge of the people on this site! If you get stuck just ask and there will be people here that will be more than willing to help you out mate
antz Posted February 3, 2007 Author Report Posted February 3, 2007 my problem is im as stubborn as them my mum has a BIG PROBLEM with me lifting it myself because her dad once did it and somehow slipped and the engine landed on his chest. he got lung cancer and didnt see the end of the next year she says it was the engien that caused. i dont know if thats possible but i do see her point or something. shame they dont go away too often ill get it done one way or another! thanks everyone for all the advice and help youve given me! now to just save up and get a decent engine
Messenjah Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 both of my parents ... dont buy one its a waste of money you dont need one you can use the landrover blah blah thts before i bought the capper its on the road 3 weeks and dad blows up the engine in his jag we cant afford to replace it so the jag is off the road for now and dad needs a car everyday for work so he is using ht elandrover last week mum said to me its lucky you did buy a car isnt it ... lol dad helps me out with bits n bobs tht i cant figure out by myself but he helps by telling me how to do it rather ten taking over asnd doing it himself there are some things he can do (engine etc) but he didnt really know when it came to putting the radio in and i had a rough idea but i got it sorted (easy isnt it ) bodywork nether of us have tried before so i thought id give it a go screwed up royally so took it all off and tried again .. screwed up some more so took it all off to try again and im about halfway thru it lol

I'm willing to give you a hand swapping an engine, and I bet Simon (with the Xr2) will too. I've got a hoist, and can get my zetec out and back in again in about 90 mins, so a few of us working on your car should do it in no time. Don't attempt to do it on your own though. We knew someone through the Anglia Owners Club who was working under a car and didn't support it, and it fell on him and killed him. No one knew he was there, so he wasn't found until hours later.
antz Posted February 3, 2007 Author Report Posted February 3, 2007 chers guys! the scrapyard was rubbish! not a single fan i could use my dad did offer me a lift there though which was nice of him. im gonna dig in the garage for some parts to sell so i can raise the money for that 1.6!
