antz Posted February 2, 2007 Report Posted February 2, 2007 dont you just hate them sometimes!!!???? my dad has been driving me nuts the last few days. ive been wanting to get a bit more power out of my 1.3 engine and i cant aford a lot so i suggested an electric fan and a 1600gt head. the fan he went I THINK ITS A STUPID IDEA AND WONT DO ANYTHING and told me the 1600 head was a better idea. so i enuire about a head and tel him im going to buy one then...WHY YOU GOING TO DO THAT? IT WONT DO A LOT. WHYD ONT YOU JUST LEAVE IT AS IT IS. THERE IS NO POINT MODDING SUCH A SMALL ENGINE...if it was up to him id still have the fooking thing running on the original airbox! every idea i propose he just shoots me down. when i suggested a 1600 he said YOU CANT AFFORD THAT! everything i do to my car he is completely against! but once its done he wants to be teh first one to drive it! never mind the fact its MY CAR! he is just so negative and unhelpful sometimes...so ive come to a new conclusion. fook it im gonna save up and buy a 1600. i dont give a toss what he says! rant over

Mr Sam Posted February 2, 2007 Report Posted February 2, 2007 get an electric fan okay its not much put its one less thing the engine doesnt have to spin all the time, ive got mine on a switch and i know what you mean i mentioned getting a capri to my mum, she nthen told my granpa i walk in the door and he went fookin mental at me! there too fast there too dangerous they dont hold the road insurance will be loads...............etc etc the only reason i got away with buying the 1600 for the fiesta was i said im going to sell it on for profit
antz Posted February 2, 2007 Author Report Posted February 2, 2007 i know what he means about a 1600 but i cant realy afford the insurance on one and i have no1 to fit it for me. but he is even against me getting a 1600 which he suggested electric fans i cant do by myself so i need his help but he wont help me so i might just have a go myself anyway. whats the worst that can happen?

On the parent issue, my dad is quite sound, always helps out and gives advice, help, opinions the old dear on the other hand - no opinions, always puts me down... You're not a kid anymore and I reckon when he sees you using your initiative and making your own decisions he'll either muck in and assist or leave you to determine your own wants and needs, either way you win.

By helping me learn to drive and get me doing pct's and autotests- he helped me gain some self confidence which i'm still lacking in! But I understand what u mean. At the mo dad just doesnt seem enthusiastic with anything i show him. I need an osf for the lon to bri run and i've been looking at mk1 fezza's and capri's (my insurnace wont let me insure anything b4 1982 ) He just doesnt seem bothered!!! He's like "we havent got the room for another car, the renault will have to go... " I could store the new car at his friends till i sell the renault- which wont be until i get another car because i need a car for work and college! AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

A good mate of mine had the same problems your experiencing now. The only thing my parents tried to put their foot down about was me having a motor scooter, but they lost that battle about 10 years ago. I have always had 2 wheels as well as four since. Unfortunatley I lost my mum 9 years ago, but my dad has always helped either with advice or practial skills, but he is unwell now, so I wont let him help with spanner waggling (He still offers though bless him) That is one reason why I bought my Anglia. It was his weapon of choice way back when, so I thought it would be nice to have something to play around with together. BTW, an electric fan can save up to approx. 2 BHP & if you want a wiring diagram for the fan, I made one for Mr. Sam I think when he was doing his. Ask him if he still has it, that may save me from having to find it again Get stuck in lad.

Stand on an inner wing each and away you go With regards to your fan hunt, peugeot 205 ones fit well and are fairly plentiful. Whatever you find make sure that it is mounted on the same side of the rad as you want to mount it ie. engine side or grille side. otherwise you could end up with a sucker when you really wanted a blower

IM FED UP OF THEM! i suggested a new engine and i didnt ask fro their help at all and i got: you cant fit an engine you cant afford a hoist you cant do it on the drieway its not sufficient the garage roof is too low its too ezpensive to do you cant fit a fan its a pointless idea what if it goes wrong you cant afford to do that BLAH BLAH BLAH SHUT UP! i get a goal i want to reach and all they do is shoot me down at EVERY opertunity they get and they ALWAYS have an excuse. fook it....im gonna get an electric fan adn get a 1600 engine. i dont need their help. ill do it BY MYSELF.. i darent even telll them ive entered myself for round 3 of the OSFDC. they will go bezerk!

Radiator is held on by 4 size 10 bolts and 2 pipes, will be an easy job to put back in - should be quite a simple job to build up the confidence to do more involved stuff The old dears always nagged me to get rid of the OSF and buy sommthing sensible but the old man was always helpful when it came to fixing minor stuff, but by doing more stuff by myself I know more now than he ever will If you don't learn now when youre young when will you learn

You need to do that first so its all good practise . You dont need a hoist, just hire one or get some mates round . The drive is more than adequate, its an escort, not a space shuttle. alternatively use the road outside the driveway. The garage roof might be too low, the sky is not. All your ancillaries- clutch, alternator, gearbox even engine mounts will work with the bigger engine so the only outlay is the engine. There car more than likely has an electric fan. Itll allow your engine to warm up faster than the engine driven one. so itll save you fuel as the auto choke will be off faster . If it goes wrong then ask on here and someone will tell you how to sort it. Do it while theyre on holiday or summat and then itll be too late for them to stop you by the time they get back .
