I would quite happily see the 80's fords on here IMO but the thing that worries me is there are not many people out there that fit Amplifiers and Subwoofers in their Anglia or RWD escort. I would like to see a change but the problem I see is not only did the models change around the 80's, but the way there are modded aswell! I know everyone likes different things but its hard to govern what "Style" of these new/oldskools people will like. If you allow the new/oldskools in then you will have to prepare yourself for some cars with 19" wheels with a matching subwoofer!

I think its unfair to assume that its only 80's Fords that are distastefully modded, I've seen plenty of distastefully modded 60's and 70's cars in my time........

I for one don't like huge wheels nor do I like massive sound systems in my cars, yet I would fit in the new-old skool bracket thats being discussed.

With all the other forums that are out there why does old skool ford has to change when these forums are there already, sorry if your don't fit in here so why is it so important to get your car on here sorry i don't get it. Please leave the forum as is the world is in a total mess at the mo so cars are the last thing on peoples mind in years to come it will pick up again and if more of the people that come on this site paid there subs OSF would have more money.

There should not be a problem with letting Next Generation Old Skool Fords onto the the forum and having their own sections, after all there are quite a few people on this forum with donor engines etc from later models (i.e. Cosworth engines EFI pinto's and even the Zetec from even newer models), do we start restricting these owners too because their cars are not within the spirit of old skool!!!, and also what about non ford engined conversions, i.e. Vauxhall redtop and Toyota engines do we ban these all together!!!. When I have arranged meets ups in the past I have always opened it up to the local RS Clubs and other Ford Clubs in the area. I mean after all what harm would come of it, you are not being held at gun point to own or drive one, these cars have their place within Ford's history they might not be what you like but I expect that some people that own newer cars might not like older ones.

I really don't think we will be over run with Mk3 Escort and Sierra owners, as the tin worm has claimed a lot of them (Ford did not seem to use their best quality metal in the 80's), and a lot of the Cosworth Sierra's either had their engines liberated for use in older cars or ended up in the crusher due to losing arguments with trees etc.

Don't fear change, embrace it, if we didn't change once in a while we would still be living in caves banging rocks together.

I'll stop now rant over.

Its a good point that has been made about the change in style of modding for newer cars. Whilst some OSFs arent to everyones taste, I can't remember the last time I saw a mk1 escort with neon lights or a sound system that rivals a nichtclub in Ibiza. Of course, I'm not saying ALL newer fords are like this, but IMO there is a definate difference in what is perceived as modding to later cars (the saxo generation).Gluing on plastic body bits just isn't the same as bolting on a decent brake/suspension setup, and I wouldnt want to see the likes of this on the club stand at shows.

Elitism, seperatism or snobbery, call it what you want but I've voted to keep the site as is. There are other forums for those who like/own the newer models. So far the it seems the majority of the votes have gone the same way

Off topic I know, but I noticed there are some people posting on this topic I've never seen before, so at least the issue has got some different thoughts and opinions going

I think a cut off date is good ,like 25 years old ,classic ford rather than oldskool ford.

As stated ,include cars that are younger if they retain the looks and model.

Keep it rolling too and create new sections for new models.

That said lol i do view this site as a proper Oldskool ford site and adding 80s motors would

change my perception of the site .

Im sure plastic bumper cars will be considered OldSkool when all modern cars have electric motors and carbon fibre bumpers as standard .So it may be an age thing ,perhaps 18 year old lads may compare this site more to a vintage old mans site lol which is how i see vintage car forums ,i would not want to associate my mk1 escort with one of these vintage forums the same way a mk4 rs turbo owner may not want to be on here .

All that said ,if the site is to evolve and pull in more revenue there is the problem

that none of the current cars on the forum are being manufactured.

So if the site is kept in a time warp which is great for the image ,there is no way it can grow.

Membership will go up and down as people leave the scene and sell there cars and others buy there cars etc .

If you want to keep the site Oldskool you could pull members in by having a section that cover other areas that oldskool cars are used in .A historic rally section ,i guess a lot of these guys may not use this site as there use for there cars if different to the show and meet scene here.

Same as historic saloon ,not just UK but world wide .

There is so many forums that i use for different reasons because they all offer something

different ,but in the same way the super markets corner the market i guess forums are no different .A one stop OldSkool forum would pull in more members and leave the other by the wayside just like Tesco lol Just give the horse burgers a miss.

Bit of a long post for a lurker lol but just my thought .

It is and always will be a great site :D

There are a lot of valid points and id hate for OSF to go down the shitter because its lost its one unique quality over the other forums

I tend to use turbosport a fair bit because theres a lot of good advice on there but i always come back to OSF, Why? i cant explain it but theres just this sense of 'my old rusty escort belongs here'

does that sound weird

Over 50% are asking for it to remain as it is. I like the fact you have asked, and a democratic result will prevail.

I have been an owner of many Ford's from the eighties but still consider the MK3 Escort too new to be regarded as Old Skool.

As said, there are many sites that cater for the 'newer' cars where Old Skool cars are not in the higher percentile.

I joined this site coz its 'oldskoolford'

Propa old fords..... It's kinda heritage..

It's it's own identity :)

I can't really see a club stand at a show with 'an area' set aside for orion/sierra etc working tbh....can you imagine being at a show with say 10 osf on the stand and say a lairy coloured xr3 lookalike with drum n bass blaring out!?in the corner...!

It'd cause too much agg( maybe I'm stereotyping)

Also newer fords have their own clubs already XR club RS club cosworth Orion etc etc

And whilst some of the cars are restored nicely there are some that are awful- body kits, nasty lairy colours, massive stereo's etc etc....you only have to look around at the shows from last year.....

Keep things as they are please- just my opinion

Best post so far i think, it says it all yes you could have the later stuff on here ( i enjoy looking at a good later old ford ) but i think it will start a whole heap of them and us type posts. surely join a forum that deals with your car not one that don't , if you like ALL old fords join the other forums too and when you want some good old fashioned osf chat and banter come back here. I will go with the majority vote at the end of the day but i vote leave it as it is. So keep the votes coming even if you don't want to comment its YOUR forum and if you want it we will open the forum up.

By the way if you say cut off Jan 1st 1980 in production the mk3 escort was not at that time.:wink:

When I had my MK2 XR2 I did not come on to this forum looking for advice or to show it off nor would I want to, I saved that for somewhere else. I have my 105e on here because it is catered for here. That is the way I like it. This site has always had a strict policy on what is allowed and what is not. That is part of the DNA of oldskoolford and what gives this site it's unique identity. Why would you try and join a club that dose not cater for your car? I wouldn't log on to a capri only site and moan they haven't got an Anglia room?

Don't get me wrong I love 80's fords that's what I was raised on I've had more mk1 mk2 fiestas and mk3 mk4 escorts than you shake a stick at. So could there not be a newskoolford sister site? With its own club stand next to oldskoolford at shows.

Just my own opinion.

Out of interest I looked for a definition of 'Old Skool' and found the following:

Anything that is from an earlier era and looked upon with high regard or respect

Clearly 80's Fords are from an earlier era, they're more than a generation back. But, looked upon with 'high regard'? It seems that, with a few exceptions for some MK3 Escorts and Mk2 Fiestas, there is not much regard for plastic Fords of the 80's and later, they're just a mode of transport.

A late RWD Escort, Cortina or Capri may be the same age as an early mk3 escort or sierra, but they are from a different era of car design. That's what makes them old skool, not how many candles they have on their birthday cake. Its similar to the year separation of vintage and veteran cars (1919 I beleive ) A vintage car doesn't suddenly become a veteran just because it gets a year older.

I joined the site for what it is, oldskoolfords, not the add on that want to join, I like it as is,

The www is a massive place, you can find clubs and groups for any type of car, don't dilute this site by giving into pressure, to expand to more modern cars, a cut off date could be 1983 or the end of the Mk2 Escort production run, as an example,

Special rooms ...?? When does that stop ?? Do we have a saxo room ???

If your car isn't old enough just except it ...it's the way it is, plenty of oldskool cars come up for sale,

I don't own an Aston Martin ..would i join the Aston Martin owners club and get them to change the rules so my SKODA rapide qualifies ...

i bet that a good percentage off members cars are powered by the so called plastic fords ie cosworth, zetec etc.

i can see were your all coming from as i own a couple of 105e's,mk3 xr3 and a saff cosworth , but i think you need to move with the times and get more members aboard.
