Chris standage Posted April 7, 2013 Report Posted April 7, 2013 All depending on what i can afford at the time and what can be offered to me, but ive decided that this engine of mine needs a good tune up, and a few goodies putting on it. Now as i can see my main choices are HPE, WPE and ashton mobile, just undecided on whose gonna get the job when the time comes. Now try and convince me on who to use haha.
turnover Posted April 7, 2013 Report Posted April 7, 2013 They all seem to be fairly good from what ive herd, you are probably best to get some comments from people who have had there engines done by them ,good or bad experiences, but what you will find is EVERY !! engine builder/tuner will have lots of satisfied customers but they all get some that are not happy, but there are allways two sides to a story, and to be fare a lot of people won't come on here and tell there bad experiences only the good as it will just open a can of worms
Chris standage Posted April 7, 2013 Author Report Posted April 7, 2013 well there the 3 main ones i know and i know a few people who run some of there engines, all have no problems with them at all, just looking around for the best deal, looking at a fast road 1600 x flow, its about time this escort deserved an engine it is worthy of haha
Admin Vista Posted April 7, 2013 Admin Report Posted April 7, 2013 Which one of them is closest to you? With fuel costs being what they are, the cost of getting to and from them is relevant too.
Chris standage Posted April 7, 2013 Author Report Posted April 7, 2013 Right well they are all around 40-45 miles away, so no difference at all in mileage haha, that hasnt made my decision any easier.
Chris standage Posted April 7, 2013 Author Report Posted April 7, 2013 That would be a 100% vaild point, except i dont drink tea, or coffee or hot chocolate for that fact haha 1
Chris standage Posted April 7, 2013 Author Report Posted April 7, 2013 Im from southend on sea, well hadleigh but its easier to say southend haha
Skimmer Posted April 7, 2013 Report Posted April 7, 2013 Another factor could be the cost or possibly the extras as with any trade some give a rough price and then it doubles ......i know from past experience a big name in engines (Oxford based) and still trading many years ago used to give you a '' your looking at about £600 '' then a month or so you would get a phone call saying ''were at a £1000 shall we carry on ''..............Just my experience from 20 or so years ago :eeek: ..............i like these icon things Im not saying anything like that about the 3 companys you mention all ive heard about the 3 is there top work .....
Chris standage Posted April 7, 2013 Author Report Posted April 7, 2013 Ive had different responses as to what i should do with the car from the start, My dad has had a past with mk1 and mk2 escorts in rallycross, he seems to think the body isnt upto good enough standard to warrant a decent engine, however other osf members love the car and say its worth every penny, still in the decision making wether i should get this one running properly and looking tidy and selling on, then putting in a bit of extra money on top of the sale price to get another with a decent shell. Oh the decisions haha
SmokeEm Posted April 7, 2013 Report Posted April 7, 2013 a lot will depend on your budget mate. A decent fast road Xflow is not cheap. ALL of the builders you mention will want to know your budget.
Chris standage Posted April 7, 2013 Author Report Posted April 7, 2013 Thats another thing, i dont know how much these things cost as of yet, i cant spend all the money in my bank on an engine (wish i could but thats unpractical) i can only see how much im paid in the next few months from work before i start thinking about budgets. Also got to pay off my octavia VRS, along with rent and other things, bloody pain in the ass haha
PCOE Posted April 7, 2013 Report Posted April 7, 2013 Oh cool nice one Chris There's Nuffin up wiv the bodywork mate Get an engine sorted Look at my car.... Rusty wing I still went for engine over getting body sorted 1
Chris standage Posted April 7, 2013 Author Report Posted April 7, 2013 Well the only thing its being treated to right now is all the parts it needs for an MOT, fitted new horn today, picking up electric washer pump tommorow, looking for headlights, also got to get the read brakes all sorted.
theloudboy Posted April 7, 2013 Report Posted April 7, 2013 Mike has his ashton crossflow coming, dave is running in his W.P.E crossflow so you better get both of them to take you out when they are all sorted and you can ask them how much they have spent, you already know i will tell you to speak to wayne at W.P.E top bloke my car speaks for itself chris. 1
aardvark101 Posted April 7, 2013 Report Posted April 7, 2013 Dont forget if you make it go faster you will need to make it stop quicker as well, so factor in some better pads and fluid for a start. 1
Chris standage Posted April 7, 2013 Author Report Posted April 7, 2013 Yes i know mark sounds like a good idea, ill see what happens, as you and craige said on FB, i could just spend my money on it and get it how i like over time, its all money at the end of the day.
theloudboy Posted April 7, 2013 Report Posted April 7, 2013 Dont forget if you make it go faster you will need to make it stop quicker as well, so factor in some better pads and fluid for a start. I always tell them to sort the suspension and brakes first and i hope you are gonna bring the 105E down to our meet at brentwood aardvark.

No one knows just how good the bodywork is on your car until you start taking it apart and poking it with a screwsdiver i'm dreading do it on mine but you got the car so and it looks good so can't understand why you would sell it mate.
Chris standage Posted April 7, 2013 Author Report Posted April 7, 2013 I will get everything sorted eventually, body, suspension, brakes, engine, interior, and a hell of alot of money
theloudboy Posted April 7, 2013 Report Posted April 7, 2013 It is chris but you can do one bit at a time to spread the cost but you need to plan how much power you want cos the more powerfull engine the more everything else will cost ya. Dave was asking about suspension and brakes at the last meet and i guess mike will also be looking to uprate his suspension and brakes when he gets his new motor.
Admin Mk2Jo Posted April 7, 2013 Admin Report Posted April 7, 2013 All 3 are reputable companies with many years of experience and each have supplied engines to many OSF members. Contact each of them with your requirements and then decide 1
Chris standage Posted April 7, 2013 Author Report Posted April 7, 2013 yeah well ill see what i can come up with, first priorities is the MOT haha
aardvark101 Posted April 7, 2013 Report Posted April 7, 2013 I always tell them to sort the suspension and brakes first and i hope you are gonna bring the 105E down to our meet at brentwood aardvark. Yes mate will deffo be up for that
