5tox Posted July 1, 2013 Report Posted July 1, 2013 looking at the front panel i have for my mk1 escort i want to do something with the air holes i.e make them a little deeper but then again i do go through these phases where i think somethings cool then a few weeks later see how shit the idea was so what are your views, i wanted to give a deeper dished look as it will go with the rest of the theme (dished wheels etc...) dont ask what i used to cut out as the prototype lol
Admin Vista Posted July 1, 2013 Admin Report Posted July 1, 2013 What's the objective? i.e. why do you want them to go deeper?
5tox Posted July 1, 2013 Author Report Posted July 1, 2013 purely for looks, it 'should' go with my other plans like dished minilites, a deep recessed fuel filler cap in the C pillar, bubble arches etc...
Admin Vista Posted July 1, 2013 Admin Report Posted July 1, 2013 Hmmmm, thumbs down from me Plus, won't that caused localised air flow through your radiator? The amount being dependent on how long you make them
5tox Posted July 1, 2013 Author Report Posted July 1, 2013 wouldnt be very long, only a few cm as in the pic. im still very much 50/50 looks better sitting in my living room than it does in the pics, id also use a peice of straight steel instead of a rippled effect baked bean can lol hmmmmmm, i shant do anything too hasty just yet
Mrs O/H/C Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Your car so your choice but personally I don't like the idea
shaun1.6ghia Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 I like it but keep them real short like 10-20mm
5tox Posted July 2, 2013 Author Report Posted July 2, 2013 Exactly like that, infact it was your car that gave me the idea What is it you have used? ive had a little play with some mild steel up the shed this evening and the results look pretty good, might get one tacked into place tomorrow and post up some pics The beauty is that i can soon unpick them again if i change my mind
GJUK Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Can't see the point myself, maybe it will make your car less 'nickable' if you do mods like this.

5tox Posted July 3, 2013 Author Report Posted July 3, 2013 Its just something a little different, id hate for my escort to be sat next to a load of other mk1's that all looked exactly the same i wanted it to be subtle enough so that from the front you cant even tell but still to be different from the norm
Tom E Cropp Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 There brake ducts come in all different shapes and sizes. I agree with you on this 5tox, I get bored of seeing the same cars in the same colour schemes with the same mods! I've got a lot of time for people who think outside the box to create something different! After all I think that's whats so good about this scene there's always people out there taking these cars to the next level! And so what if it's not to everyone's taste your the one spending countless hours building it make sure you like it when it's done!
Daft Lad Picko Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Do it! Look s alright to me, it's different and if you like the idea, why would you not?
gearbox100 Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Its just something a little different, id hate for my escort to be sat next to a load of other mk1's that all looked exactly the same i wanted it to be subtle enough so that from the front you cant even tell but still to be different from the norm i have to agree . Make the car yours not the same has everyone elses . Its good to be different.
mk2 mike Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 I have to say I like it. Looks a lot more 'trick' than just plain holes drilled into a panel (which I've always thought looked odd). Putting the 'return' bit on them looks like its been fabricated better and had more work and thought gone into it. Do it!
5tox Posted July 3, 2013 Author Report Posted July 3, 2013 Heres my attempt using mild steel sheet cut to size and then wrapped around some exhaust pipe until it was perfectly round then the two ends tacked together I have not yet tacked it to the front panel as i may just buy some perfectly round 60mm tube to begin with (will make the job much easier) nice and subtle from the front, but still unique
shaun1.6ghia Posted July 3, 2013 Report Posted July 3, 2013 Love it, do it As long as they body colour I fink they'll look ace!!!! IMO
5tox Posted July 3, 2013 Author Report Posted July 3, 2013 yup will blend them in and will be the same colour as the rest of the body (which is still undecided) im still drawn towards cherry red hmmmmmm....
5tox Posted July 3, 2013 Author Report Posted July 3, 2013 Shaun do you know who drives a dark green mk1 escort round this way? i drove past it coming through town around half 5, never seen it before
