Ive had my RS since april last year, ive spent more money than I actually have and I feel like im never going to drive it!!!! PLEASE TELL ME ITS ALL WORTH IT IN THE END?!?!?! :banghead: *Breath and repeat* A 2.1 pinto with 45's on full chat.........

know your pain :(

I had spent a lot of money on mine plus the ridiculous amount of time working on it getting it where I want it with loads of problems on the way, had it featured in classic ford, yet I still couldn't drive as no company would insure me :(

I know it isn't quite the same but I do understand. I was so fed up with it contemplated selling it and everything, but then I had one last stab at getting it insured with the company that came the closest to insuring me on previous attempts. Then then managed to supply me with a quote and insurance policy.

I was over the moon, but even more so once I had been out for a good blast, all became worth it in a matter of minutes!!!! :)

probably a boring story but hopefully you can drive it soon!!!!

Thanks guys, I know you've all been there before! Its not just one problem its a combination of a few little ones, I get frustrated at how long its taking them to do it, I get annoyed that theres bubbles appearing, the amount of money ive spent and I don't even feel like I own it, I feel like I get a call to say I need to buy something but I don't feel like its mine!.... Ross I hadn't even thought about insuring it, there talking about a 200bhp pinto, im only 23 so I don't know how much that will be! I know in the end it will be worth it but it feels like forever away. I missed all last years shows with this car and the year before I missed it with my other mk2!! 2014 is my year, OSF, Beer, Good people and sunshine!! BRING IT ON!!

you will get there,

best thing I found if I was loosing my rag whilst doing a job, was to walk away and leave it for a week and go at it with a clear head.

as for the insurance try RH, I will PM you about it....

Sorry mate but I Had to chuckle when I just read this. I had my daily mot'd a few weeks back and saw your car sat there full of bits and no further along than when I saw it last year. I wondered then if you were pulling your hair out! Don't worry, we've all been there. I posted a while back myself debating if I should just sell up. The spiralling costs, things always failing, only using it half a dozen times a year against the thousands it costs etc.

Trust me, when you drive it and the sun is out you'll be grinning from ear to ear and the pain will all be forgotten. :)

I've seen your car in the flesh, it's going to be a stunner! Keep at it.

Its always going to be a problem if you're paying others to do the work a) you don't really have control over the budget, B) when something is actually achieved you are rarely there to appreciate it, c) its hard to crack the whip if you don't have the money to back that up. Mine is still no way near finished but I'm doing it myself so progress is down to me but when it is done I think I shall enjoy it that little bit more! And yes the money you spend is daft - actually beyond daft, still better than pissing it down a drain!

Trouble is Katana, Some of us don't have the knowledge, the ability, time or tools to work on them ourselves so we have no option but to pay someone else. I'm firmly in the category of why should I attempt to do it (and invariably cock it up) when I can pay someone else to do it right in the first place. Downside is, it costs a fortune but personally I'd rather pay a professional to do it than drive around in a car that I've worked on lol.

I wasn't having a go at anyone but if you follow your example ultimately it leads to the muppets you see beside the road with a flat tyre waiting for the tow truck cos they can't be bothered / arsed / capable........................first thing I made my GF do after passing her test - change tyre, check oil and have working knowledge of how everything oily worked!

When I bought my first RS I was 20 and knew nothing about cars, didn't have a decent tool kit but the first major job I had was by necessity - cam belt snapped at nite 15 miles from home. Left the car where it was, went to work on the bus, bought a socket set, belt and manual, went back and fixed it beside the road! If you haven't the money, you have to use sweat equity - simple tasks aren't that difficult to learn, they make the harder things get easier. Maybe its me but because of that first experience everything i've driven or ridden has been modified and spannered by me - not everything i'll do but i'll have a go first (unless its a gearbox - I hate them!)

Worse thing that can happen is you'll know if someone is feeding you a line or Bulls**ting you when you do want something done?

I try to do as much myself as is possible, but I understand why people pay to have work done, and I find your honesty in that respect refreshing.

I have taught myself to do most jobs, from spanner work to welding and painting, and have found the journey extremely satisfying, but this was born of necessity rather than choice, as I simply don't have the funds to pay for the endless amount of work involved in maintaining a classic Ford.

If you can afford to have it done professionally, then why not?

What really yanks my chain, is when guys claim to have done big fancy engine conversions, and intricate fabrication work all on their own in the small lock up beside their house, when in actual fact they have paid tens of thousands to have it done professionally. ( I know one guy personally, who claimed to have built this fantastic creation, with an all steel screamer of a turbo'd powerhouse, then later discovered he bought the shell ready converted in primer, and the engine was bought built up from a mutual friend! )

Really pi@@es me off!!!!

I know you wasn't having a pop katana, I just wanted to put my perception across. Personally I absolutely no interest in fixing cars. I enjoy driving them but hate doing any work on them. It's not enjoyable for me, just a massive chore. There seems to be a bit of a stigma around those who don't do the work themselves , ie the 'built not bought' stickers and the 'home built Heroes' badge of honour. If you have the time, and the ability and the space to do it yourself that's great and I'm impressed no end with the cars I see on here, at shows or in magazines. I'm just saying it's not like that for all of us. :)

Im definitely a builder, i actually enjoy the building part and tend to lose interest once the project is finished

but then again, this is my first 'classic' so i might feel a little differently when its done

In reply to the original post, Stick at it buddy

Hahaha yeah ive driven a few OSF and I love it, its just been so long that it feels like a life time ago.... I have to admit I was being a bit dramatic the other day, I was tired it was a long day and id just received my credit card bill!

Don't feel too bad! Least you'll have a nice RS at the end of it all. My car has been off the road for 5 Years, looks rubbish, has a standardish pinto in it and is probably the least desirable old ford haha.

Funny , i am having mine done by some body else and i got told the other day when enquiring "would it be ready for the target date"? that it doesn`t matter how much money you throw at it these things take time if it is to be done properly.

I work away out of the country" offshore" and internet is almost none existant telephone calls can be made if the weather is fair ! and it is soooo frustrating sometimes not knowing how things are going.

so yes i also know how you feel .

car has been stripped

welding work on going

booked in next week for sand blasting

then re wired (whole car)

then painting

and im sitting here right now trying to find  the best deal to have a pinto rebuild done .

once i get home mid march i will start on the interior

BUT IT ALL SEEMS SO FAR AWAY !!!!!

i have owned a mk1 before at the tender age of 18 " a few years ago now" but honestly i still remember how it feels to drive and the excitement it gives you , THATS WHAT MAKES IT WORTH THE WAIT
