DT36 Posted April 30, 2014 Report Posted April 30, 2014 Love this stuff. We used to use this in our 2 stroke moto-crossers years ago and you just couldn't get enough of the smell when at the track or up on the old pit site as a youngster.

They were just mental to ride. I had a CAN-AM 250 with the Rotax and it was an animal. Obviously not a patch on a Fizzie with a Fresco though...

BigBubba Posted April 30, 2014 Report Posted April 30, 2014 No good for road engines apparently, causes a varnish build up on components. Who knows if it will actually cause any problems though, and how long it will take. Some guys dose their fuel with it, just to get the smell at combustion! Ok with carbs i assume, but dont fancy firing it through injectors! Are there any modern synthetic oils that smell nice when burned???????

I used to add it to my Motocross bike because it was a 2 stroke, so it was needed. Couple of us bought a Mini when we were about 15 years old for about 20 quid, then realised we didn't have enough money for any petrol. Being as we had the car up the old pit where we rode our crossers, we all donated a bit of our fuel each out of our bikes for the mini. If I remember right, the mini then ran like a bag of sh1te and we had to keep cleaning the spark plugs to keep it running. 2

Wish I'd kept hold of it, must be worth a fortune now, my dad bought it for my 16th, he fitted crash bars and a micron pipe along with a bigger reed valve.. Used to fly along.He then gave me his mk2 1600 delux Cortina for my 17th !! So it's his fault our drive is full old Fords !! 1

I wouldn't advise adding it to fuel, but have a search on google, loads of guys doing it! The dose is tiny in comparison to a 2 stroke mix though, so doesn't affect running, but it'll still ruin spark plugs and god knows what else! 1

With two strokes all the air and fuel mixture goes through the crankcase before being squeezed up into the cylinder via transfer ports. Because there is no lubrication system or oil in the crankcase, oil was mixed with fuel in the tank at between 20:1 - 40:1 ratio to provide lubrication to the mains, big and small end bearings before being eventually being burnt giving a smokey and nice smelling exhaust! Castrol R is old skool and is essentially castor oil and as an organic product it tends to get gummy and varnishes the inside of carbs and the crankcase but it is a VERY efficient high pressure lubricant hence its use back in the day! 1
